chromes=slower 8

whatup guys. I am thinking of buying some chrome 18's. I have no idea how much these weigh, but is there anyway of knowing how much slower the 8 would be, as in 0-60 and the 1/4 mile. Of course you would first have to give an estimate of how much the wheel weigh, thanks

It really depends on what you get; you're asking a very difficult question. There's really no way of knowing how much "slower" your 8 would be, unless you do some extensive testing. Unless your new wheel/tire adds substantial amount of weight to your car, the difference in performance shouldn't be that noticeable (sp?). Plus nowadays, a decent set of rim weighs about 21-25lbs per wheel. Most aftermarket wheels weighs less than stock, unless you get 20", or your car comes with "aftermarket" rims that's branded for your car, such as the Enkei's on EVO8, or BBS on STI.

my steel wheels did add extra weight ,but I did'nt notice much drag on acceleration,but of course, I have not timed the car. some pics of mine with 18"sand another from ebay with 19"s....Staggered ......Man ,I should have gone with 19"s,they fill the void.

Yep, I got the same wheels but in 19's, a little heavy but I'm not a lot about racing but about looks, and they look awesome.

Your question is pretty hard to answer - what are your current 0-60 and 1/4 times?

Unless you change to big--heavy chrome--the time lost will be negligible. Also--while wheels vary--there is a thread that weighed the OEM chrome and regular OEM 18s and they found the Chrome set to weigh a tiny bit less. So I would not worry about it at all.

Trussville weighed them--take a look at this thread:
https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...ht=dark+chrome
21.5 for the chrome
21.7 for stock
The weight difference is negligible.

Interesting. Others have weighed the stock wheels and got 23 Lbs for them.
