Cancelling my pre-order!

I just found out that my mom start receiving Ford retiree benefits starting next year that will include a Z-plan discount. :D

So, I will cancel my order for now and wait. With the discount, I should save about $3k off MSRP, so it's definitely worth the wait to me.

Now I just have to figure out what I'm gonna do for a daily driver when my lease expires in August. I'm looking at used cars now, maybe I'll try to find a nice used Miata for the time being.

Think this one out. You'll buy a Miata (4-5k + Tag / Title) for a decent used one. Insurance (1k). Basic tune up (300). Then when you are going to go buy the 8 you need to get rid of the Miata. If it's a trade in, you'll get raped. It'll cost you less if you buy the car now than if you get the Miata and pay 3k under MSRP.

You should check to see if/when the car would be eliglibe for z plan. I work for an automotive supplier and we have a Ford discount, but the dealer said that the RX-8 isn't eligible for any plans.

You may be better off taking the 8 now and flipping it if there is a big demand. And, isn't safety a concern? With a larger car, with more modern airbags, isn't the 8 safer than the Miata? There can be no price tag on personal safety.

A Miata is very safe. It has very good numbers in both real world and government crash testing. It's so light, it tends to bounce off things. :D

I agree with Bread! The dealers are stating that there is no x or s plan discount this year on RX-8 or any Mazdaspeed. They just started offering the plan for the Mazda 6 but only $1000. off.
