Does the European and Asian based RX8 have the same issues as the US and Canadian models?

some of the issues and they have some that we dont and some that we did but were fixed here but are not fixed there yet.

for instance the oil light coming on that was fixed here by changing the oil pans to one with different baffling. cars are having that issue in the UK but MazdaUK denies there is a problem. same story on the surging ac- we got the new ac amplifiers MazdaUK tells people its normal and not a problem and that their vins dont fall into the vin range on the US TSB. no **** the vin ranges are completly different

Thanks, the only reason I ask is I have read many of the other discussions and notice the term “strict emissions for the US” comes up often. I was just curious to see if using one of the JDM computers with less restriction issues would have any effect on our dilemmas? Would switching to a Haltech cure any of these issues or is it above and beyond the computer?

FYI, the Internet is International. It's been in existence longer than Microspud, despite their attempts to monopolize it as well.

 

A buddy of mine runs a Mazda dealership in the UK. Trust me, most of the issues some of our US club members are having are also affecting UK 8 owners. Me...no issues what-so-ever. My 8 has been nice an reliable for the past 3600 miles. The issues are global...Mazda seems to have a different procedure/explaination depending on where you live.

We don't break gearboxes or clutches, we didn't have the K,L or M flash issues....(we've had the E, F and G flash of which improved mpg seems to have been the only real change). We've never had flooding issues......2000 odd cars here and 2 or 3 reports of flooding. The oil pan problem was apparent on cars in the first shipments, but was resolved early. The cars are a smashing success here, it's just that they're expensive.

The biggest screw up for the US cars was the last second quick fix made so the cars could meet the EPA2 emission standards. This seems to be at the core of the engine related quirks. I say quirks, because in my case (knock on wood) my car has been flawless - runs like a champ and is rattle free (6 months old).

Even though the re-flash for emissions reduced our US power from 247hp to 238 hp, it still seems to match the peformance numbers of the 250ps JDM cars in the mag tests I've seen. 0-400m in 14.6 secs in Japan, while our US mags got about the same for 1/4 mile.

 

Yes, we have many of the same issues. (Trust me i've followed UK and US sites religiously over the past year).

BUT we don't have your "TSB's".

If we get a fault we take the car in and more often than not the reply from the dealer is "that's the first time we've had it reported"......yeah right!!!!
There are no "TSB's" to fall back on and as such it's sometimes a 50/50 if it get's fixed immediately, seems to depend on the particular dealer

Personally...I visit you at least once a day :D .....And there lies another issue worth noting in difference between us and you guys.....we have to pay to access all but 3 of the sub forums on the UK owners club website.

I am from the UK and yes it seems we have most of the common problems that you guys have in the states.

A couple of our most common problems are;

Rusting brake discs/hubs/ or rotors as I think you guys call them.
interior squeeks/rattles (drivers seat seems to be the most common)
Crunchy gear change from transmission when cold.

We also are on the 'M' flash although word in the UK is it was to resolve some flooding issues. Although I must say that there are over 5000 cars in the uk now and only a handfull of flooded motors have been mentioned on the uk forum.

I have had my 8 for three months now and have so far had no issues whatsoever (apart from the crappy fuel consumption 16mpg at the moment and we have to pay around 4 gbp for a gallon, at the current exchange rate that would be nearly 8 dollars a gallon although our gallon is slightly more than yours.
