The strangest people...

Pull up to me and "challenge" me on the road. I laugh when I see the kids in their stock Civics pull up to me...but I only have to shake my head in wonder at some other cars. Tonight, a carload of kids in an H2 SUT pull up to me and all stick their heads out and try and get me to go.

I guess it just furthers my opinion that people that buy H2s are all around dicks

Well, the Rx8 does look rather exotic and 'fast', so it's no wonder everyone is curious about its performance.

I wasn't planning to admit that, but since you went there ... I got warned for "aggressive driving" last week by my town police (thankfully only a warning ... that's an expensive ticket.). I did a full-throttle-to-redline 1st gear acceleration up to the 45 mph speed limit the other day. Only problem was, there was a cop behind me.

Note to self: "Check the mirrors before doing that again."

What was funny, is after pulling me over, and giving me the schtick about how what I did was unsafe, unwise and generally socially unacceptable, the cop cracked a grin and said, "man, when you went rocketing away from me, I thought "holy ****, I didn't think those cars were that quick off the line".

Whenever things like this happen to me and it is a Civic or some other econobox, I calmly look their car over, and shake my head at them as I'm rolling my eyes. That, or if their windows are down I've told a few that they're not worth the gas it would take.

Either method always gets them pissed.

Yes. I have done some crazy stuff in my car. The good news is this car can handle all of it like no other car I've ever owned.

Now that's no fun. You have to wave at them at a red light. Go ahead and get them ready. What the heck, rev it up to about 6500 or 7k. Then just smile reeeaal big :D , and when the light turns green just ease off the line. Watch and laugh at him as he squals tire, tears his rear end and/or tranny becuase he is giving it everything he as and just drive away. As you reach the next red light and see that state trooper or city cop writing him a ticket, just smile once again :D . Now that... That is entertainment.

That's what I always do...the other day 2 kids in a crx pulled up next to me, rolled down their windows and go "can you drive that as good as you look?" i looked at him, gave him a smile, adjusted my sunglasses, light turned green and off he went, and there i was crackin up. And the climax of it all was when he got pulled over. They looked pissed

A buddy of mine got really irritated when somebody was tailgating him in the snow & ice. He waited 'til the guy was close, lightly tapped his brake pedal, and smiled as the guy went sideways with a really surprised look on his face. Dunno how long it took the guy to get a towtruck to pull him out of the ditch.

Not that -I- would ever do such a thing, of course... :D

Scariest thing I've had happen to me...I have another friend who owns an RX-8, and I was riding in a friends SUV (female, likes to tailgate .) So, we are following the RX-8 to a 3rd persons house, when the RX-8 takes the exit. It being an RX-8, doesn't brake. The person who is following the RX-8, not thinking but just following, doesn't brake either.

Me being an RX-8 driver and realizing what is about to happen, grabs the "OH ****" bar with 2 hands and begins to scream...luckily my girly scream caused her to brake suddenly, so we only fishtailed around for a little bit instead of flipping over and exploding into flaming little bits!

There was some dumbass SUV riding my butt all the way down one road (some people just can't figure out why you can't go faster than the car in front of you) then he tried to follow me as I got on about a 270 degree turn onramp. hehehe...he was gone by the time I got to the highway

the other day on my way to work, a camry was tailgating me while I'm doing 80. it ticked me off since he had plenty of room to move over to the #1 or fast lane.

so I take off and he follows. We're doing about 120 and I decide to slow down before I get a ticket. He passes me and I give him that "are you an idiot face" and he keeps going. Not even a mile or so later, I see smoke coming from his direction, the guy blew a tire!

I watched him pull over to the shoulder with his car leaning to the front left. I almost wanted to yell out that's what you get sucka!!! but didn't want to jinx myself either so I just keep goin'. :p

Me too. I wish there were more drivers like you. Good for you. Keep it up.

Personally, I've noticed that a lot of people in their older Nissans try and prove that their MAXIMAS are just the fastest thing on the roads.

I've also observed that a lot of people in the VW Jettas reving up their engines while at a red light next to me.

It's been several weeks since someone put the "rev" on me. Well, last evening it happened again. It's strange weather in Chicago right now - we're in a period of humid 40-degree weather after a week of near-zero-degree weather around Christmas, which froze the ground. Therefore, all the pavement is very damp with condensation as it is colder than the air around it. Add to the mix that the roads have a huge amount of salt residue on them right now, and it's not a receipe for traction.

So, this idiot kid in what looks to be a mid-90's Integra GSR pulls up next to me and "puts the rev on". I look over and he's got to be only like 16.1 years old. Probably his first week of having his license. His girlfriend is with him. She looks scared. His mods consist of a coffee can exhaust tip, "blue" headlights (HID-wannabe lights) and some sort of Japanese/Kanji script that probably says "This idiot doesn't realize how stupid he looks".

So, lately, I haven't been even dealing with these idots, but considering the conditions and all (slick as hell out due to the moisture and brine on the pavement), I'm thinking I need a little entertainment. I'm going to "dupe" the kid.

So, I give him a little "blip" rotary noise. (OK, the tach hit 7500 RPM.). Well, this incites him further and he puts his engine up to what must be about 6000 RPM and holds it. The light going the other way begins to turn yellow, I turn my attention to the light and being ready to get the hell out of his way, and begin revving my engine as well - holding it at about 4000 RPM.

The light turns green and he dumps his clutch. And gets nothing but wheelspin on the wet concrete. His car inches forward at what has to be less than 5 mph with his front wheels spinning at about 35 mph. I begin my usual easy motor off and hear him declutch to jam it again, and again, he gets nothing but wheelspin.

Finally he gets it hooked up and whistles by me about a block down the road as I'm calmly shifting up from 2nd to 3rd at 40 mph. I catch him at the next light and he's pumping his fist, obviously very happy and excited and his girlfriend is laughing. I punch down my window and he yells "Dude, I owned you! I killed an RX-8!"

I said "Yup, sure did. You owned me dude! Have a nice night!"

Hope the kid at least got laid over that ...

Hi I'm new. I somtimes like to lose it and purposely over-throttle just to watch my car slide. It was magnified when the streets were slick after it snowed on Christmas Eve. Hey, I had to close the store that night, so I needed to have some fun.

Don't tell me you guys haven't pulled some crazy stunt. It's a sports car after all. Have some fun with it.

Holy moly, I thought I was the only one who called it the "oh sh*t" bar! haha. I drove an SUV before I got my 8, so I know where you're coming from with that story. Minus the girly scream, I mean... :p
