With spring around the corner, thinking about new wheels ...

and I had a question

Everyone always asks "will such and such tire fit my wheel", so I'm gonna flip it around. What range of wheel widths will the stock Potenzas fit? I'm guessing I could go to 18x7.5 with no problem, but what about 8.5?

And someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but the stock wheels are 18x8, +42mm, and 5x114.3?

Thanks for the correct offset.

ok time for newbie questions
Less offset means the wheels stick out more, correct?
If I get a wheel of a different width, say 7.5 instead of 8, will the same offset work or will it need to be bigger/smaller? (ie what would be a good offset for a stock-ish fitment of a 7.5 wheel?)

Smaller offset number means the wheel would stick out more. With 7.5" width wheel, you're looking at a +35 offset to give it a more "flush" look against the car.

Thanks that's a great page.

Although I'd still like to know if the stock Potenza's will fit on a narrower wheel (7.5") - my gut feeling is yes, since 1/2" is only about 12mm, or 6mm extra per side that the tire would extend over the stock wheels (and we all know how far (not) the stock tires stick out).

And while I'm at it - will the stock potenza's (or any 225 tire, for that matter) fit on a 8.5" wheel?

Alright, I've narrowed my choices down - anyone see any obvious problems with getting 18x7.5, 5x114.3, +43mm wheels and using stock tires? If I did it right, the wheels stick out like 1mm more than stock, and the tires should fit nicely too.

ok I talked to someone at discount tire direct, and I'm lost
if a 245/40/18 will fit on a stock 18x8 (which he confirmed), why won't a 235/40/18 fit on a 18x7.5?

10mm is about 1/2" (I know, 1/2" = 12 point something mm, but it's 2mm!) so I'd think it would be ok, but they said no.
