Thumbs up All Rx8's Not The Same

I had a revelation recently about my 8. I dont believe all are the same. My good friend picked his up one week after me, same trans & options but from the start he beats me all the time. Maybe it's in our head, So we test both of them i get 0-60-6.0 he gets 5.7 on two different clocks. The same results when we change cars give are take a missed shift. Since then we have put alot of mods into each car, and taken time off our straight runs. But then i read R&t,MT WHAT'S UP with those 0-60 times

Maybe the 8 had some improved components in that particular build that weren't published to the general public? Who knows... maybe the timing device was not calibrated correctly. Test drives are not an exact science.

Considering the human element, improvements within fractions of a second are not really all that interesting, nor scientific. The published 0-60 ratings vary between test drivers. Mazda claims 5.9, while many claim otherwise..

the 0-60 times were adjusted from the recent flashes. do a search, this issue has been discussed in detail regarding hp differences amongst different models.

6.0 sec 0-60 is almost identical to what MT, R&T...get

Your friend seems to have a little faster RX8 with his 5.7

My questions is, just in case I did not undestand correctly, if you drive his RX8 you also get 5.7?

Also, where are you taking the car to get these 0-60 times? I hope everyone knows that in the street EVERY car will be slower compared to a track. That's why they state street 5-60 time, etc etc...or street times compared to track times.

Just my two cents regarding your issue...

Don't forget, the ECU "learns" your driving habits and this could ultimately impact performance.

As a sidenote, last time i took in my 8 for service the mechanic who drove it swore that my car seemed quicker than many of the others he's driven. He told me he drives them every day and they're all different. take that comment as you will.

Well, yeah...not every car is exactly the same but the difference should be slight at most. 6.0 to 5.7...is that slight? To me it's too much...but what do I know????

I would not think, but again what do I know, that the ECU would make one person's car performce slower than the other. What...does it detect GRANDMA driver and cuts 15-25HP...LOL...if so, we all need someone to test drive our 8's before we buy them so they perform the best.

When you do the brake pump test that resets the ECU right? Maybe you could do that, drive like you stole it for a while and see what happens

.3 seconds would fall well within the margin of error for hand-timing cars to 60mph.

Apart from Radar/expensive timing techniques...yeah. Perhaps he was GTeching thing? Still...I'd guess that'd easily be within the margin of error.

~I think your right.. I got my 8 in november of last year, and i have a friend who has a supercharged eclipse running 0-60 times between 5.8-low 6's and i beat his times every run. he just doesn't get it. I hear people saying the mags are so wrong with their 0-60 times but i seem to be getting just about 5.9-6 second times. And i don't even drop the clutch about 4,000...

I think the numbers are possible, some don't, but I think it is. If MT & R&T can do it...then we can too.

It's the old...

as long as you and your friend swap cars and repeat the run and his car still gets the lead, then we know it's not your driving skills.

my father in law has a GT and I have the GS .

He said that mine felt different during pick up . He also said that the GT was a bit slower of lift off.

Is the GT heavier then the GS becasue of the leather seats , moon roof ...etc
