Post (CLOSED) RX8 Vented CF Hood

*** Thread approved by Omicron, 11/12/04 ***

Ok, Guys/Gals we have a chance to have a vented CF hood custom made for our RX8s based on the one Alex photoshoped on one of the threads...

It will be an improved version, cleaned up and very good quality; the molds will be CNC machined and computer designed for absolute symmetry... It will be available in black CF as well as red, orange, yellow and blue CF/Kevlar blend... (This will be produced by a OEM fabricator...)

In order to get it done we need to get the following commitments and the pricing is dependent on the number of commitements, otherwise no group-buy...

QTY.......... Price
10............ 929.00
20............ 649.00
25............ 599.00

Here is a picture, let me know what you guys think...

So wait.. is it still going to have the "rotary bump"?? This kills it for me if so.. it's the one part of the stock look that I 100% can't stand

I think the rotor hump is nice... The lines of the scoot style vents accentuate them nicely...

Look at how it looks on this hood.

I think it looks totally out of place and garish and again the one thing, if I was limited to changing only one, that I would remove/change about my 8

to each their own, of course!

The one thing I hate most on cars is when they put a whole bunch of fake vents/intakes/inlets all over the car (think Mustang!) and not one is functional. It trying to be something your not or pretend to have something you have which you don't!!!! Why pretend you have a mean engine with various turbos on it and you need these big bloody vents all over the hood so the poor turbos can breath easier? Its nonsense. Its fake and at the end of the day, other sports car owners will laugh at you since underneath all that fake stupidity your still a car that can beat by G35, 350Z, STI, Evo, Vette, Mustang, Z28, Transam, any porsche, etc... Why don't you put an 8 foot high rear spoiler on it and a parachute while your at it.!

The car is beautiful as it is. Those who know of it will respect you for your choice, because its a great package. Put all this nonsense on it and you'll probably add a lot more weight, worsen your coeficient of drag (aerodynamics), and proably have less control at high speeds. Once you start try to make your 8 look much faster than it is, thats when people will start to lose respect for you and your car. If you added twin turbos and now the engine needs to breathe better so you buy this hood, then when/if people start laughing at you , then you show/smoke them so they know you are for real!

lol... so let me get this straight. Vents=Twin Turbos

Why pretend you have a mean engine with various turbos on it and you need these big bloody vents all over the hood so the poor turbos can breath easier?
There is no pretending, this car has a Rotary engine which creates lots of HEAT. The vents don't allow the engine to "breathe", then they'd be scoops. They are vents and allow heat to, and here's a big word, VENT. Try a search on the subject and enlighten yourself.

This thread is a group buy based on on This thread and a demand shown for this hood in particular. If it doesn't interest you then pass on it. If you feel you need to spew nonsense, then by all means start a thread on how vented hoods are not needed on a rotary engine.

Sorry Alex, please accept my apology. It was wrong for me to respond the way I did. Had a bad morning with an employee and somehow vented here.

My sincere apology.

No, thank you for the apology. It is very big of you to do so. I regret that I also may have blown off a little steam in my reply.

Sincerely,
Alex

would be nice too see the final product..or at least a close approcimation to it.. IMO the vents in that photo shop don't match with the rest of the car (granted they are vents off of a FD3S ).....the vents start together and curve out but the hoods curve is a different angle. one of them curves in the other curves out. just my oppinion...if the curve of the vent went along with the curve of the hood..it woudl look killer....but in all things...to each his/her own

hmm hope that makes sense:p

I'm interested. I'd prefer without the rotor shape and an actual scoot-like hood, but there's not many options. I'm doubting my interest will change anything, though. How many do we have, 4?
