Anyone know what's the widest tire you can put on the stock 18 wheel without changing overall diameter dramatically?

Do you know of anyone running wide at rear than front, say 255/40/18 vs front 225/45/18?

 

There are several who have done this and posted, try searching on 'staggered'. There is some debate on the ultimate effect on a relatively neutral car like the 8, on the other hand it should look pretty nice.

 

I think there are a few posters who are running 245's up front, and 275's out back on stock rims. Seems a bit big for an 8" rim. I will probably be going to 245's when my stock tires wear out.

 

The way I make those rears smoke it won't be much longer before I have to replace them...I always drive with DSC off...I love making the tail spin...this car is so predictable...

I want more grip at the rear thus why I was asking about wider tires but want to keep my chrome stock 18" rims...I thought they were 7.5" across not 8"...are you sure?

I had such a rush the other night...a Stang Gt year old came up right on my tail on this country road just outside of Home Depot near my place...he passed me...I kept my cool and we both came up to a stop...he revd his engine several times while stopping on his brakes...he wanted to go...he floored it...I took my baby to the red...he was not getting away...belive it or not but at 8K on third I was starting to overtake...he slowed as just over crest other stop sign would appear.

I let him lead until we got to stop sign, he was going east I was going west, he rolled his window down and I did mine...he said "great run, what's that thing got in it?" his jaw dropped and said "bull f....ing ****" when I told him a rotary 2 cilinder normaly aspirated 1.3 liter.

I love this car!!!!!!!!!
