Anyone try to fit the Aerowerks MS front bumper by themselves. I'm trying to figure out what to do around the side marker lights where there are fittment problems. Anyone with any advice, I'd appreciate it. Thanx!
P.S. I did a search for a DIY- nothing on the Aerowerks

another one bites the dust...you buy crap now you have to deal with it...

 

you have to heat up the aeroworks pieces to fit them...in addition, you want to paint them AFTER they are fitted...or even after they are fully installed

 

Any reputable, experienced body shop should know how to heat and fit the pieces.. the thing is, the more work, the more hours, the more you pay.

 

which is what I'm trying to avoid. I have several repairs to make on my 8 at my expense, one being the front bumper, so cost is an issue. I knew the e bay fiberglass ones were crap but saw a couple of good posts about the urethyane kits. It's not really too bad quality wise, but fittment is the problem and installation is definately not as Will presented it to be. Hindsight- yeah, spend the extra money for the real thing.

 

Saw a couple of good posts? Hmm... Most if not all of my posts that stated the negatives of the rear bumper was removed.

The way I look at it is this.. if you have the money, or CAN get the money, go for the real thing... If you want to save some money, get a "HOT" deal one... but above all else, never get American Fiberglass junk. Urethane... well... that could be a problem as well.

Yeah, I know. a lot of my negative posts were removed too . our beloved moderators at work. they must have some connection to Aerowerks. maybe they'll chime in here.
I guess most of the positives were from guys who had the kit installed by Aerowerks. However, when I'm told by Will that you can DIY because it's 'direct bolt on' & 'plug & play' (notice the quotation marks) and it's NOT, that pisses me off. Oh yeah, not to mention having to wait about 5 weeks to get it when being told 5-12 days.

If it's too good to be true it probobly is. I paid almost $3000 for my Auto Exe kit and it had a small issue. Nothing like this, but you get what you pay for.

 

I bought the urethane ms kit from aerowerks too.

Shipping was no problem for me.

Got mine in exactly 1 week. So I was happy.

It all started when I had the bodyshop prepare, install, and paint the kit.

Fitment wasn't great and they are having problems painting also. They say this happens

when they are dealing with cheap urethane products.

They are the ones that are having trouble and I'm the one living with out my car for over a

month.

**** happens..... I just saw pics of Mikeb's car and thought that it would be a good deal...

I guess I should have used a little more money and bought the real thing....

Dongwhi, theyv'e been working on installing your kit for over a month?! sorry to hear that, that's not good news. a friend of mine who owns his own body shop was over today (he'll probably end up doing the paint job if I can do the fitting) and he said there's a lot of ripples and waviness to it, not to mention a lot of hours shaving, drilling, cutting, etc., to fit it properly. I saw Mikeb's car too and said I have to have one of those. They sure hooked us!

 

well.. if it weren't for the paint problem, they should have been finished in about 2 weeks..

the paint is giving them and me a pain in the a$$...

they said they should be done by monday which is 1 day short from 5 weeks...

tell your friend to prepare the urethane very well before painting it or you might run into

the problem that I'm having right now...

I also thought the body kit was a bolt on just like the real thing just that the material was different...

I was wrong and it's taking way too long but still I believe urethane is better than plastic or fiber glass...

so.. I'll just have to live with it... maybe if someone runs into my car I'll go for the real ms kit ...

 

Cheap Urethane tends to flex in the heat, also it is heavier than the Real MS bumper, the Fiberglass, and will tend to drag eventually. This is for cheap urethane...

It's not bolt on? Hmmm gotta check it out up close next time I see the kit again... maybe it wasn't the flexing that is causing it to droop.. but the kit itself is coming off.

 

well.. the bodyshop guys had to figure out how to attach the kit to the car since the kit didn't have anything

on it that connects it to the car

I'm just hoping that they did a good job and the kit turns out ok

they also told me that when they left the car out in the sun, the urethane kinda flexed and

changed shape somewhat....

maybe the kit will just automatically fall off during the summer.............

 

it shouldn't fall off.......maybe it will melt off!
well, I've been busy trying to fit this front bumper and there's been a lot of cutting and sanding to do. there are a lot of holes, slots and such that fit together with other parts and onto the body, all of which are not in the bumper. If youv'e taken your bumper off, you'll know what I mean. And the side marker light area is a nightmare. Maybe Will needs to learn the meaning of 'plug & play' because you definitly can't take the old one out & put the new one in as that implies.I can't imagine what this is going to end up costing you. It is so time intensive. I hope your not paying them time & material.

 

luckily, they settled for the price they gave me in the beginning so i'm not paying any extras..

still don't have my car back... 5 weeks and 2 days have passed...... T.T

five weeks! are you kidding, they probably are slowly tearing out parts of your car and replacing them with cheap knock offs,

or they sold the car

5 weeks is unacceptable, end your relationship with them now

 

im just happy that i didnt get teh AeroWerks kit in the 2nd Gb...... i had my money all lined up..... Phew.....

my front and sides fit well
my rear has gaps but I've seen real ms back bumpers will gaps

the side marker area is a huge problem! the side markers will not even go in. some people have cut the fin on the side marker that holds it in place and some people have trimmed the backside of the bumper to fit the side markers in. The other holes have to be made bigger too and fitting has to be done for the bumper slider ( plastic brackets on both sides, mounted to the chasis that clips the bumper in) Not for the average DIYer. And definately not plug & play like I was told

 

Not to pollute your thread, but I'm really happy with my Aerowerks M/S kit - lots of people have seen it, and I think it looks great. The Auto Werks shop that installed it did a great job, both fitment and paint match. (They had the car for about 10 days.) I was a little disappointed in the initial fitment of the rear, but they re-did it and it looks great. The Auto Werks guys were very accommodating, and made sure I was satisfied. I think I got a good kit, at a good price - with a GREAT install.

Sorry to hear about your problems - hopefully it will all work out and you will be happy with yours too.

 

Wish Aerowerks would have done that with the other members that bought the kit from the very beginning, took the chance to buy their kit, promoted it as quality stuff, and would have the courtesy to simply fix the rear bumper like they did for you Riccio. But that wasn't the case. They got the money, and ran with it... at least that's how it appeared when people mentioned the complaints.
