RB Front Endlinks for Auto-X

Ok... question. It's been a while since I was in stock.

I'm looking at getting the RB FSB and endlinks. However... their instructions for the Front Endlinks say:
Due to the larger diameter studs provided on the Racing Beat endlinks, both the sway bar ends and the mounting holes on the chassis must be enlarged to accept the mounting studs.
Is drilling on the lower a-arm (what they call chassis) legal in stock (Thinking national competition here) and covered under 13.7.4?
No modification to the body, frame or other components to accommodate anti-roll bar addition or substitution is allowed, except for the drilling of holes for mounting bolts.
Does the drilling of holes extend to the endlinks for the FSB instead of just the 2 mounts for the swaybar itself?

Anyone want to take a stab at this? I'm usually pretty good at decyphering the rules.... this one's got me confused.

You are fine. There was a clarification a couple of years ago about this very subject. As long as the hole serves NO other purpose (triangulation, etc.), it is legal for stock class in the SCCA.

Any clue why the clarification never made it into the rulebooks? Just cause past SEB ruling said it was ok before doesn't make it ok now.

That's what I thought. I sent an e-mail off to Doug Gill at the same time, and he pretty much said the same thing.

I'll be placing the order tomorrow. Only 2 events left... let's see if I can at least get the FSB & endlinks in.

Any secrets to getting the factory FSB out and replaced with the new one?

Imp, use lots of patience. It took my dad and I about 40 minutes to do the install. Pulling the old one was trivial. Putting the new one in, well that took a few "Ok thats it, almost there. DAMN. Ok, now what? Pull it out, lets try again."

Imp, I'll be interested in how this affects the car's handling. I just got myself into autox this year and was considering the sway bars. However, like you said, only the FSB is allowed if I want to remain in the B Stock class.

Hey.. wait a minute.. I know you! You were my instructor in my Ti RX-8 in Ft. Devens! Good to know that you're taking the plunge

Imp,
Make sure you torque those bolts down. I forget the amount, but failure to do so will result in very annoying "click-clack" sounds :o

Are you going to the Team Challenge on the 30th at Devens? You'll see it then. I'll even take you out on a run if you want.

Oh yeah! I don't think I'll be competing but I'll see if I can drop by and take up on your offer . I might probably be on snow tires by then or the temperature will be too cold for the stock tires.

IIRC, Brian had an issue with torquing the bolts. When he did the install, one side was torqued to the upper end of the range and the other at lower end of the range. The side with less torque kinda got a little loose, I think.

Also, and while it is embarrassing to admit this, make sure you put the endlinks in with everything facing the right way (i.e., the same way the stock endlinks were mounted). They will fit the wrong way, and will snap right in half as soon as you put any load on them. :o
