I have searched, and checked any threads that looked relevent, but have not found a difinitive answer.

Based on the sound clips posted, and the ENORMOUS praise of the RB cat back, i know that i will be getting that. The sound is pure sex IMO for this car.

I also would *like* to replace the stock cat with a higher flow design. The logical choice seems to be SR motorsports high flow cat (based on this board again), but i havent really seem anything solid of what people think of the sound with both of these installed. The RB exhaust by itself sound perfect. Does the high flow cat kill it? Does it make it raspier? Does it make it just simply "louder"? Or does it make it deeper? Id like something barely noticible at idle, slightly noticible at partial throttle, and growly at WOT, but not (please forgive the comparison) a raspy civic sound.

So to anyone who has a high flow cat with a RB exhaust, please tell me your opinions on this set up sound wise. I know the gains of power from this would be neglegible, its purely a sound/look issue for me.

I just got SR Motorsport's hi flow cat (with resonatoroption now) unit yesterday. I wll attach it sometime soon. I am waiting for the RB air intake, as I want to install everything at once (SR Motorsports hi flow cat, SR Motorsports pullies, SR Motorsports lightened flywheel, and HOPEFULLY the RB air intake soon) and dyno before & after. In taking a look at the craftmanship of the unit it is top notch. One of the reasons I got the resonator is that I didn't want the hi flow cat to spoil the sound of the RB exhaust. I will try to get a sound bite when I have it installed. I really like my RB exhaust, and I wouldn't want to change the sound of it at all.

 

Also very interested in this setup, I am presently saving for the same: RB exhaust SR Motorsports high flow cat.

 

Thats pretty much exactly how i feel. I would like to keep that RB exhaust sound the way it is. Please keep me posted on your installs and dyno results.

Anyone else have this setup that cares to share?

I have the same question. I know canzoomer had to put his stock exhaust back on (because the noise was too lod for him)but I'm not sure which cat back he had. Heck with the high flow only giving you a few hp..I think I rather have the rb sound! (at this point)

They have improved the hi-flow cat unit (larger unit by random technology), supposedly it is much better. The hi-flow cat or a mid-pipe (for all you non-environmentalists out there) is one of the few proven hp adders to this car. A mid-pipe is shown to give about 8 hp to this car, and a high flow cat unit about 5-6 hp. Unfortunately right now the RX8 is already so good many of the cat back exhausts, and air intakes are showing little gain.

 

This ongoing discussion has me convinced to start with the hi-flow cat and play wait and see on the exhaust. While we are waiting for someone to comment on the dual SR and RB exhaust setup, what about the hi-flow cat with the stock exhaust? How is the sound quality?

 

In talking with the SR Motorsports rep. at Sevenstock he said it sounded like the regular stock exhaust. Apparently the stock exhaust is pretty muted. I know many of the people who have put on the original Canzoomer unit commented how incredibly loud it was with an aftermarket exhaust, but that it was OK hen they went back to the stock exhaust.

To me its a personnal preferance. I have the rb catback. Toally satisfied with t he sound and the quality. I agree that a high flow cat would generate probaly 4 mores horses than just the catback. BUT, this hp is only available at the highter range of rpms and 4 hp is not going to be a differance that you can REALLY feel. 4 hp is 4 hp however. (im using 4 hp as a general estimate guys). In 95% of your driving those 4 hp would not matter at all. To me I much rather have that great sound of the rb catback that I can hear all the time;. If you are a SERIOUS tuner then yes you have to look at the hi flow(maybe just a mid pipe with no cat). But if you are like most of us and just enjoy moderate amount of mods and drive the car everyday then I highy reccomend the rb catback. Besides those larger tips coming out the back just look good! The midpipe and catback system is very loud per several posts on the forum.

This is actually similar to the setup that MazadManiac is using. He has just a mid-pipe instead of a high-flow cat though. This is by far the best bang for the buck... not too loud and you get the most hp for your money. For those that complain about the tips, he just ordered some aftermarket exhaust tips, cut off the stock ones and welded on the new larger ones.

 

Does the RB+SR setup bolt right onto each other, or does one need to do a little custom rigging to make it all fit?
