I'm a little upset about my "M" reflash
I took my car in for the recalls (The first time I took it back to the dealer since I've had it) , and they reflased my car with the "m" version software. I had the "J" version. Am I nuts or did my car lose some horsepower ? It seems not to have that "throw you back in the seat " kick when I shift from 2nd to 3rd anymore. The car seems to idle smoother though. Can anyone give me any info. on whether I actually did loose some HP. I bought my 8 last Oct. and never had any problems (except the squeaky brakes) since I bought it. Is there any other differences that I may come to notice with this new flash. I'd appreciate any input. Thanks everyone.
Others have reported similar findings. Most believe that the ECU will "readjust" taking into account your driving habits. Things may very well improve over the next week. Do a search for the other thread(s) on this issue.
I tested several versions with a G-tech and the L version was slower than the original flash on my September 03 built car. The high end kick was gone as was .5 seconds 0-60. Mileage, however was up by 2-3 mpg.
The M flash has indeed gotten better since the first few days. The high end kick is still not as dramatic as it was originally, but the 0-60 time is now the best since I have had the car--about 6.4 seconds with no high revs or wheelspin. Mileage is off slightly from the L flash (19.5 instead of 20).

It seems that the ECU does re-learn ones driving style. Same thing happened to me, but after driving her HARD, the power is back. See this thread: https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-discussion-3/got-m-flashed-wasnt-happy-but-now-its-all-good-38013/
It seemed to work great for me. My mileage went up, and my butt dyno was reporting a slight increase. Oh... perhaps best of all (perhaps not) the black carbon on the bottom of my tailpipes as been cut back dramatically. I guess the damn thing was running a bit rich.
Thanks alot everyone. You all renewed my faith in Mazda. I just had the reflash last Fri. and drove it straight home and didn't drive it again until Sun. but only a few miles. Well after reading your replies at work and riding home like a "bat out of hell" , I have noticed a definite increase in acceleration. It honestly felt even faster than before. I'm soooooo happy. Thanks again !
