I'm going to be buying a set of Tein spring ASAP but wanted to see what your opinions were. I know this is a decision I have to make but a little help from people who already made this decision would be great.

I want to lower my car but don't want it slammed too much and want to keep a decent ride quality. This is why I was originally going to get the H springs. When I talked to a rep. he said I should get the S spring because the H wasn't much of a drop at all. I know the H drops it about .9" up front and about .5" out back which is great. The S springs are about 1.4" up front and .7 out back but the ride is a lot more harsh.

Which springs did you buy and why?

Are you happy with how they perform/look/ride?

Do you have any pics? (if so please post them)

What is your application?

They're pretty much the same price, but I think the S Tech springs are a bit softer than the H Tech; according to the webpage, the S Tech springs are for a more agressive look. The H Tech was for maximum performance, and they're made of a new material, vanadium (it's far from a new material), for which I have materials property sheets for.

If you're looking for a well-lowered look, go for the S Tech. If you're more performance-oriented, buy the S Tech.

 

I'd take a look at the Tanabe GF210 springs. They drop 1.4" in the front and 1.2" in the rear, and about the same price. They're a little more performance oriented; on good roads, there isn't a better ride, but on bad roads it takes some getting use to. But I've since taken a few rides in a friend's 4300 lb. Lexus GS300 with 19s and now don't think my 3000 lb. RX-8 rides rough at all.

I'm ready for more.

 

I got the H tech springs(option imports has them cheap), and you can tell its low, but the ride quality is the same as stock, which i was really concerned with because all my previous cars were to low and destroyed the ride.

 

I personally have the s-techs and am totally happy with them appearance wise and performance wise. The drop is just right but not too much, H-techs are kinda like the mazdaspeed coils, conservative but still offers a decent drop. But if you want the rid that awful gap in front the s techs would be better.

 

I'm not leaning towards the S springs. I'm thinking that since this car isn't my daily driver I can deal with a stiffer ride. I also figure if it is too harsh I can just take them off and buy the H spring.

What do you mean by application??? I have a 6spd. sport pkg. I'm going to be adding some rims but prob. keeping with the stock tires size.

Sorry. I meant what kind of driving are you planning, i.e. drag racing, street performance, track racing, etc.

If you're like me, I don't track, or drag or anything that would require a better suspension upgrade PLUS, I hated that gap a lot. If that's your scenario, get the S-Techs. Those are my reasons why I got the S-techs of the H-techs. Roads are pretty flat here in San Jose, so I figured, S-techs are okay.

Later, if I ever do track or drag, then I figure you need the entire coilover itself, along with other misc. addons for that application.

Plus, I saw pics of IZoomZoomI's car w/ the wheels, I got jealous and wanted the same thing

Sorry to hijack, but a coilover setup isn't really necessary for track use. However, they are complete; you don't have to experiment with different kinds of spring/shock combinations. Plus, companies like Tein have damping controllers (the EDFC). I'm still waiting for Praxis to come out with its performance airbag suspension. They have applications for the WRX, BMW 3-Series (I think), and an upcoming one for the Mustang.
