I have confirmed I do not have the latest Navigation operating software (no Mazda logo @ boot). My 8 was built in 08/2003.

Without taking the secret steps to wipe out the current software, is it worth a try to ask the dealer update this version considering I just bought my 8? Also, if they disagree, I wonder what the cost is to upgrade it?

I simply want the new version and considering I bought a new 2004 car, I expect the latest version off the lot. Please advise.

I'm in the same boat as you, I confimed I have to old software as well. So far the dealer has made it clear that he won't be doing the update for me, I haven't gone down there and made a big fuss yet, but I will. Have you had any luck?

look around the forum...there are already multiple threads on this

I had no problem walking into the dealer telling them it is slow...freezes etc...and it was a free upgrade under warranty and they gave me a free rental car

I have a great dealer though...their service department is amazing

 

... or wait until Navteq releases the 2004 Map update DVD that will also include the DVD operating system upgrade. Supposedly next month now... although that has slipped a few months so far.
