Just finish Installing HIDs

After order the HIDs converstion kit at 8000k, it finally came and installing was a piece of cake. Since i got the base version it did not came with Xenon lights. I was trying to figure how to get to the low beam light and finally i found out i have to take the undergaurd out and from there i can take out the low beam lights easily. The converstion kit was all preqired and it was kind of like plug and play. the light fit perfectly and im a happy camper. Now i know how the owner of the xenon rx8's feel when they drive at night. One little problem, the other light i dont know whats it called but it halogen and it orange. It doesnt match. Maybe i can get some blue lighhts to match it with the BLue HIds. I will try to post some pictures of the 8

Don't worry, there's nothing wrong with that other light! All of the 8's with HIDs have it the same way. Welcome to HID-ism!

Where did you get your HID's from? I take it you installed one of the retro-fit kits. Those are really the only thing I didn't get on my 8 that I'd like to have.

I want to get HID's, even if it's not the blue or white beam. I have trouble seeing at night, especially on the lonely roads I drive on. I heard an HID kit runs about $1,400, but I'm not sure.

You can get HID retro fit kits for under $500. 8k refers to bulb temperature or something like that. 8k is pretty much white light, 6k I think is the next common bulb down and it's got a bluish light. Below that is like 3k or something which I guess is fairly purple.

$399 here:
http://www.hidexpress.com/index.asp?...PROD&ProdID=14

replaces the factory H7 bulbs.

EDIT: My numbers vs. color info is wrong. refer to the link.

HID Temps

Actually, 5800 Degrees Kelvin is pure white light (i.e. sunlight). Higher is bluer until you reach violet.

Halogen light is around 3800K but looks white enough at night. Next to a true white 5800K HID, halogen looks tinted brown and/or HID looks tinted blue (but its not blue at all).

Why HIDExpress would sell anything over 5800K (or 6000K) is beyond me. Perhaps the market is used to the "bluer" than halogen HIDs which used to look cool, so they have to go bluer to be cool again?

Either way, this may be a good solution to the halogen bulbs in the RX-8 high beams and fogs.

True, but the intensity will be nowhere near that of a true HID system. I'm just going to invest in new glasses, or contacts, and buy something worthwhile.

P.S. - those of you who've known me around here know what I want.

yeah, i feel the same as morgan does. the S2000 lights look alot nicer. S2000 looks the same as the Audi S's lights. are they the same? would our 8's be able to just replace the bulb to get the S2000 look?

You can but expect $200-$300 for a pair here Willie. I only know Sydney have it but I am sure Melbourne mod shop will stock one. It can go up certain rating up to a certain point without upgrading the wiring.

oh yes.. it may be difficult but the bulb can be changed. As long as it is compatible with code D2S

I never change it and RX-8 is my first car with Xenon. The owner manual and the service book did not say either.
