Arrow G6 - Thoughts?

There will be a coupe and a convertible version, and a "GXP" version with almost 300 horses and AWD.

This summer only the sedan will be available in base and "GT" trim. Next spring most of the models will be out, and the GXP a year or so after that.

Pricing should be similar to the Grand Am (which it replaces) at the low end, going all the way up to 30,000 for the GXP --- look for a spread similar to the Impreza to WRX, price and feature wise.

The G6 shares its underpinnings with the Chevy Malibu and Saab 9-3, so it gets an OHV 3.5L engine from the Malibu in one trim level, and Saab's manual transmissions in other trim levels.

As far as a 2-door coupe with a 4-cyl. - that won't come out till next spring, and until then the Grand Am 4-cyl. coupe will sell alongside the G6.
Base: 2.4L VVT 4-cyl version 170hp / 5-speed manual
GT: 3.9L VVT OHV V6 / 6-speed manual

What do you think? Will it be worthy to compete with the 6?

Wasn't Pontiac supposed to have a RWD sedan to complement the G6?

IMO, Pontiac has come a long way in terms of styling. Ever since the F-Body died, Pontiac has come up with some really styling alternatives, such as the GTO, and this car. Hopefully, they will release the Solstice soon; I love roadsters. :D

In comparison with the Mazda 6, I think the 6 will edge it in terms of subtlety. The G6 looks kind of looks like a cross between the previous generation Accord, and the old Acura CL. But hey, Pontiac is making better cars.

I like it--I was actually an undercover fan of the last Grand Am GT--it just didn't have the muscle that it should have had. The G6 is a step in the right direction for Pontiac--unfortunately the GTO only succeded on paper.

That's an awefully large V-6 to pack in the front of a small FWD car. It will probably push like a tug boat through the turns.

I thought it actually looked alot better in those commercials when you couldn't actually what the car looked like. :p

300hp sounds really great and all, but if it's a Pontiac it will weigh like 4000lbs, so I'm not really sure how fast it will actually be...

I just saw my first add for this car. STUPID comes too mind. I hate it when companies advertise to people with A.D.D.

It's an OHV V6, based on the current 60° 3400 V6 (LA1). IIRC, this engine weighs somewhere in the mid 400lb range with an iron block, so a bored/stroked version of it wouldn't be too much weight in the front end. For comparison's sake, one of Nissan's DOHC, all-aluminum VQ series engines weighs in at ~420lbs. If GM used an aluminum block instead of an iron block on this V6, the engine would weigh in at ~400lbs, if not less. The extra costs for tooling, production, and design of an aluminum 3.9L V6 will probably prevent this from happening, though.

The styling takes Pontiac into a new era. Nicely done and comparable to many Japanese competition.

The powertrain is old technology but tuned for nice output. Too bad no 5sp auto and no Navi.

The GT would make a good daily driver and a great rental car. I would be interested in buying a higher trim for myself if a coupe is available. It reminds me of a Mazda 6.

Is this the Pontiac version of the Scion TC? So much like the Vibe and Matrix? That 170HP VVT I4 sounds awfully familiar: 2AZ-FE engine?

It's an Ecotec, not a Toyota sourced engine. The G6 is also larger and heavier than the tC, so I don't think that there's a Matrix/Vibe thing going on with those two cars.

Nah, this G6 is ahead of the tC. Sure the 4cyl versions are similar, and so are the panorama roof tops...but Pontiac has had this concept for quite a while now. And the avail V6 leaps it ahead of the Scion. The Ecotec has been around for a while, and that newest version is the same as will be in many other GM vehicles, so I don't think Pontiac is mimicing anyone...its just a coincidently close design on a car with slightly different goals and customers in mind.
