New Owner Here...time to delurk

Hello All,

Drove to a dealership about a month ago in a 91 MR2 Turbo, original owner since 4/90, and drove out in a Silver 8. I thought I was going to have a hard time walking away from the MR2 when and if that day ever came but as I drove away in the 8 I hardly looked back. I love the 8. The dealership loved my trade in (a 91 w/only 82k miles?) and I loved the price I ended up paying...easiest car I've ever purchased.

I've logged almost 1500 miles on the 8 and here are some observations so far - pardon the redundance as all of this is elsewhere in the forum:

MPG - I thought I had a leak in my gas tank the first two weeks I owned the car. Sheezus. Mileage seems to be getting better now. Read the DSC/TSC stuff and turned it off on the current tank of gas. The car feels completely different during acceleration. Will it help my mileage - we'll see.

I don't buy into this "it's a sports car, expect bad mileage" stuff. Hard for me to swallow when I used to get 300 - 320 city miles out of 12.something gallons of gas in the MR2.

Oil - I've added just under a quart of oil so far.

Handling - Never thought I'd be in another car that will do what you want it to do.
I don't care about going fast in a straight line - ANY car can do that. Show me some curves.

AC - Mine could be better. Don't care for the drop off when you switch to front/floor mode. Seems to fluctuate an awful lot between blowing cold air and not so cold air. I'm sure the AC would be adequate if I lived anywhere other than TX. I'll have it addressed when I go in for my comp oil change.

Visibility - The blind spots are actually worse on this car than the MR2. When there is a front seat passenger it's even worse. Also, being on the short side the positioning of the side mirrors tend to obstruct my view.

Engine - Wow. I'm new to rotaries and have never driven something so smooth. Even learned that if I feel real lazy I can go 1st to 6th with no lug, incredible.

Hey - I have cupholders now!

Backseats - I actually have a place for my children now, BOTH of them. My car is not optioned with the "children present in back seats" indicator so I'm in the process of relearning my idiot and jerk adjectives every time I encounter one while driving..."Daddy, you said a bad word"

I'll quit rambling. I'd like to say thanks to all of you rotary gurus and regular posters that have helped educate me on this car and the rotary engine. I'm trying to learn all that I can as this "spinning in circles" stuff is completely new to me, so thanks again!

I'm quite pleased w/my new car.

Nice post.

I had an MR2 as well. Great car, albeit not all the practical because of its small size. Handling between the two is comparable, which is definitely a compliment!

Welcome. Do the 600 mi break in and then change the engine oil at about 1000 mi. At 3000 to 5000 mi change the trany and diff fluids to red line or royal purple if you have MT.
