Has anyone had experience running various racing fuels in their RX-8? There are several choices available:

Laguna Seca
Unocal unleaded race gas, blue, 100 octane
Shell premium unleaded, 92 octane

Buttonwillow Raceway
VP Fuels CSP unleaded race fuel, SG .786, 102.3 octane
VP Fuels C10 unleaded race fuel, SG .760, 100 octane
VP Fuels pemium unleaded, SG .795, 100 octane
VP Fuels Motosport 932 unleaded, SG .716, 91 octane

Thunderhill Park
VP Fuels premium unleaded, 100 octane
VP Fuels 91 octane

Sears Point
Unocal unleaded race gas, blue, 100 octane


Has anyone used any of these fuels in their RX-8? Mine is 100% stock, 6-spd.

Just run 92 or 91 octane. Our tuning is not optimised for the higher fuels and is not worth the extra money.

 

Thanks, murix. I wonder if the Canzoomer boxes can be tuned for higher octane?

 

Higher octane would allow you to run more ignition advance, so sure, they can be tuned that way.

 

it's been found however that ignition advance doesn't assist combustion very much at the highest reaches of the rpm band: a 3rd super-trailing spark plug is really needed (but obviously not in the design specs).

 

I have run C16 mixed with a little 91 at the track to see what happens. There was a deffinite difference in performance but true, until a tuneable engine management becomes available the full maximization of the higher octane still won't be achieved.
