Talking I Got It - Woooohooooo!!!!!

After a couple months of debating, wondering, analyzing, wishing and testing, I finally came to a decision last Thursday night.

I had been indecisive as to which vehicle to purchase. I had the RX8, Infiniti G35, Nissan 350Z and the Acura TL on my list. Like everyone else, I elimated the 350Z and the G35 because of their rough ride and cheap interior.

My conventional, sensible, engineering part of my mind was telling me to go with the safe bet and get the TL. The features were nice, the ride was nice....it was a safe bet. But I couldn't get over the body roll, torque steer and front wheel drive. Not to mention that I already have a sedan and I don't really need another one. Aside from that, I was afraid that I would always regret my decision every time I saw another beautiful sporty 8 passing me on the road.

The only decision left was which color to get. It was a toss up between the blue and the red for me....but my wife would settle for nothing less than red. So the decisions were made and I started talking numbers with the Sales Manager at Jay Marks Mazda.

He had been super in my dealings with him so far. He let me take a loaner home for a weekend (no questions asked, no deposit required and no hassling upon return) just so that I could make an educated decision no matter which vehicle I decided on. The dealership was very patient in letting me make my decision for the next 5-6 weeks. Every time I had a question, I would stop by the dealership to look at the car again, drive it again, speak to the service department, etc. Never once did they hassle me with the typical "what can we do to get you in the car today".

When I was finally ready, they accepted my well informed and researched price and gave me fair market value for my trade in and the deal was done, no questions asked. Unfortunately, with my wife's insistance on red and my choices of options, the only one that was available (without ordering) was one in McKinney Texas with 513 miles on it. The dealer agreed to flat-bed the vehicle in free of charge. My 8 arrived late Friday night and it was sparkling ready Saturday morning.

Needless to say, I can't stop driving it. I've already almost doubled the mileage in 5 days and I absolutely love it.

Thanks to all of the forum members input that helped me make my decision. This site is the coolest.

When we finally get a day without rain, I'll get to wash it again and then post my pics.:D :D

Congrats!

I took the TL's baby brother (TSX) out for a few spins before discovering the 8. All very nice, beautiful cars in that segment. But not as fun or tossable as the 8.

Have you checked that the recalls and flashes were done?

Which options didya get?

Yup, the 8 is definitely the most fun to drive!
Most of the recalls happened before my manufacture date. There are 3 things that the dealer needs to do (including the M flash). The dealer still needs to install my wind deflector, rotary accent package and spare tire kit. I should be going back to the dealer early next week to get all of that installed, including the M flash and the other recalls.

Here's my specs: '04 Velocity Red RX-8 w/Black Leather, 6 MT, Grand Touring, Appearance, Rotary Accent, Front/Rear Spoiler, DVD Nav, 6 Disc CD Changer, Wheel Locks, Spare Tire Kit, Moonroof Wind Deflector.

I just figured out how to add this as my signature....I'm still getting used to the forum features.

I have noticed that some of the members list "GT" as one of the options on their specs. What exactly is the "GT" package? Is that the 6 speed manual transmission or did I miss out on more horsepower?

Also, the only thing that I was disappointed in regarding the dealer was their lack of knowledge on the mini-disc player. They thought that if I had the 6 disc CD changer, then I couldn't have the cassette player or mini-disc player as well. The RX-8 owners manual actually shows the mini-disc player on the lower portion of the audio system. Does anyone have the mini-disc player and the 6 disc CD changer? Do you know if the dealer can add the mini-disc player now that I have already purchased the 8?

Congratulations! Glad to hear you had such a good experience with your dealer. That is the single most important thing in buying a new vehicle, the service. Excellent service will keep you coming back for more.

GT is the full Monty, features wise. It has no more or less power, but it outweighs the base 6-speed or Sport Package by maybe 200 pounds.

It's just the 6-speed, plus the Sport Package items, plus the Touring Package items, plus a few more luxury items, so you wind up with the sport suspension, limited slip diff, and bigger brakes of the six-speed, the HIDs, DSC/TC/EBD and foglights of the Sport Package, plus leather, sunroof, heated seats, power driver's seat, heated mirrors, HomeLink mirror, etc.
