no, shaving the door looks really clean

I thought about doing it

it is kinda expensive
you have to buy popers like what come in the trunk stock that makes your trunk pop open with remote

you just get those poppers for the doors.

I think he just picked a bad picture to illustrate a shaved door handle... I think it sounds like a good idea for the '8.

What do you do if the battery dies?

Cry

I'm sure you could wire up some other means of opening it.

You'll have a safety release hard wired somewhere on your car incase the battery dies. I've had to use it once or twice (mostly because I would leave my keys in the car or dead key fob), but never because of a complete battery failure.

The last time my shop worked on a car like that we installed a remote battery terminal on the outside of the car. In his case it was easy. We put a huge molex plug on the back of the car behind the license plate. He kept a pair of jumper cables in his house that had normal ends on one side, and the male version of the molex plug on the other. That way he could jump the car without ever popping the hood. The battery was in the trunk btw. That's why we did that. Remote trunk opener, remote door openers, complete car shaved. No way to get in without power!

I had shaved handles at one point on one of my vehicles and it was awesome, it was a hatchback though so if I ever had issues I could always pop the hatch, I would actually like to replace my drivers side door handle with a JDM spec handle as it does not have the key hole, I wonder if those are available anywhere. The shaved door is an age old mod in the custom car world, and in the mini-truck world as well.

i am going to do a shaved door mod, and remove all the badges...as my goal is a nice clean look. I will post pictures after i find a shop in dallas to do it. But i can't wait. And i am going with a manual door pop somewhere on the car in case of battery death.

It seems to be more popular amongst the street rod and custom truck crowd. It does look pretty clean though. Frankly I'm not sure why cars don't come that way from the factory, you already have the unlock feature on remote control, why not go all the way and eliminate the door handles? The actual parts are cheap, it's the bodywork you have to pay for.

Heh, it will look good on an 8 but the 350Z would benefit from dumping it's fugly cheese graters more. :D

Ok, I get it. I've seen it of course on a lot of custom rods, but it never occured to me to do it on the '8. Neat idea.

If you dont know what your talking about, dont talk about it! , That is a Ferrari Testarossa, it does not have shaved door handles, the door handle is under the third strake. Shaved door handles are when you take a regular door handle on a car (RX-8) and "shave" it off completely so you have to have a keyless entry-type system to automatically open the door. So, you look at the car and there are no door handles, the only way to get in is if you have the button pad to open it.

The only problem I see is the passenger door. If I get overzelous and push it twice, I'll have to walk all the way around the car to shut it. Would it be wired to the stock key fob signal or another one?
