What an amazing day. I thought I'd describe my RX-8 buying experience in my first post. I haggled the dealers around my area down to $30100 for a brand-spanking new ( 27 mi. ) Brilliant Black / Black Chapparal 6 speed with the Grand Touring and Rotary Accent packages, Navigation System, 6 disc CD changer, and Cassette player. Destination was $520 and Processing was $300. Does that sound like a good deal?

Anyway, it really got interesting after all the papers were signed. They did a "We Owe" for the 6 disc CD changer, cassette player, and Rotary Accent package. They said that their mechanics were too busy to install the sound system, but somehow they had time to do the undercoating and put the Rotary Accent package on right afterwards. Hmm does that sound fishy to you?

I hate dealerships. No matter how good the deal is, I always feel screwed after leaving one.

On a lighter note, I got the personal email address of the hot chick selling the add ons. We'll see if she's interested in something more than selling add-on's to me.

Then when I was ready to take the car off the lot, the sound system wouldn't play any audio. Everything worked with the single CD player and radio, etc., as far as the on screen display / volume / input source / etc., but no sound! I was very disappointed. They're going to take the system out on Monday for the 6CD and cassette, so I'll just enjoy the engine noise until then. Still, I'm disappointed. I like bulletproof reliable cars. Toyota has spoiled me. I hope it's just a loose connection back in there. I hope I didn't get a lemon . . .

The drive home was pure ecstasy. Words cannot describe the intoxicating, almost orgasmic, experience one feels from this astounding automobile. That silky smooth motor made it so hard to resist doing what I really wanted to do, but somehow I held off. Just 600 more miles . . .

After getting the car home, I just looked at it for hours from every direction possible. I took pictures ( which should be up soon ) and took off the stupid front license plate. Front license plate laws are so annoying. The cops will have to just write me up.

Later, I drove out to the custard joint and a couple in a Nissan Altima 3.5 drive up next to me and start revving the motor. The whole day I've been getting looks from people walking around and driving around, but this guy wanted to drag race. I look over at him, give him a condescending smile, and mouth out the words, "Breaking . . . It . . . In!" I guess I should've just ignored him.

He turned his head away and gave out that ******* laugh. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. The light turned green and he floored it in his sedan. I wished I were that cool!

While getting out of the car to go eat some custard, some shady dudes drove up in a Navigator and started staring at my car, which I drove waaay out in the parking lot, where no other cars were. These guys looked real ghetto, so I had to eat my custard outside where I could see my car the entire time. ********! They got out of their Navigator and started walking around the parking lot, circling my car like vultures.

These guys were really making me nervous, and I was getting tired of waiting to see what was gonna happen. So I finished my treat early and walked back to my car. When they saw me coming, they kind of skulked off back to the Navigator.

After that stressful situation, I then drove back to the dealership with my buddy to pick up my 4Runner. He followed me home in the truck.

What an incredible day. It didn't go perfectly by any stretch of the imagination, but the high points were spectacular. I can't wait til my baby is broken in and ready to rock.

Wow what a post... I went to the market at like 2.am and there was like you know 10 cars there, and this guy pulls up next to my 8 gets out of his car and looks in my driver side window checks out my 8 then gets back in his car and drives off?... I went to my car we got in and drove off.

 

wow, i'm not the only person who's gettin an 8 after the 4runner..haha

Welcome! It takes only 10 minutes to install the accents (well, that's what I've read... I don't have them). Installing the CD-player takes an hour; I dunno about the cassette or so-called "undercoating".

I suggest that you do a thorough inspection (both of the interior and exterior) after the dealer installs the stereo because of things like this and this.

Rosenthal Mazda is huge and can seemingly give great prices, but their staff seems to be some of the shadiest bunch of scumbags I've ever met.

And get used to folks checking out your car. I live near a high school, and as we neared the end of the school year, I would meet my wife for some lunch at a local eatery that was frequented by the High Schoolers. More than once, I had to stop and answer questions about - much to my delight (though, the question that always gave me a laugh was: is it a V-6 Rotary?) hehehehe

Enjoy it, you'll find more folks are curious about it and think it cost far more than you actually paid for it...

Know wut u mean. Still have that same feeling here every time I drive it... been almost a year now.
I miss my 8... it's been in the body shop for almost 2 weeks now, after I rear-"ended" some *******.
