Post Mazdaspeed Exhaust

Has anyone installed the Mazdaspeed Exhaust , if so what's your feed back , any improvements in power, how do you like the sound... I'am hearing so much about the others but feel Mazdaspeed might have alittle better handle on the RX-8.. What do you guys feel.

Call me a softy, but I won't say do a search. I will tell you that I studied one at my dealership and discussed it with the people there who (unlike me) had listened to it and driven the car it was on. Then I did a search. Here's what I recall:

(1) The tips look the same as stock except for the MS script on them. No bigger, no sexier. That kills the buzz for me right there.

(2) The exhaust is virtually as quiet as stock. Maybe just the tiniest bit louder. Again, big buzzkill. (I want a bit more sound, albeit not a lot.)

(3) I do not know if the dyno shows much improvement or if the tubing is larger. Any HP gains would be nominal, I expect.

(4) A lot of people sell them for way under MSRP. I have seen reports of them selling for under $600.

In sum, I find the Racing Beat more attractive in all respects. I have no idea what Mazda/MS was thinking in making such an unexciting clone of the factory exhaust.

You're quite welcome. (I wish more people around here knew how to use the words, "thank you" when someone takes the time to reply in detail.)

I think the best summary of the MazdaSpeed exhaust is, you're paying around $600 to have the MazdaSpeed script on otherwise OEM exhaust tips. And it's not very noticeable script, either.

I hear that, in order of loudness, you have something like this:

(1) OEM
(2) MazdaSpeed
(3) Borla
(4) Racing Beat
(5) Greddy
(6) HKS

I don't know where the RX-8 store exhaust or others fit in, nor do I know if my list is accurate. But it's a start. I may begin a new thread on this subject, come to think of it.

The sound is a little louder and deeper, sounds very nice; the sound is louder at high RPMs... It flows better than stock (larger pipes and less restrictive in the can) and is good for about 5-7hp... The tips are polished stainless steel and have the Mazdaspeed logo laser engraved on them... Very good quality and OEM fit and finish...

I defer to your first-hand knowledge, Cortc, with one quibble: 5-7 HP sounds a bit optimistic, at least from the results Racing Beat got testing various exhaust systems, and even testing the car with no exhaust on it at all.

I just wish the MS system had a bit more sound (from what I'm hearing, anyway) and 4" tips. I'd be all over it then.

I have mine for quite a while now. It definitely sounds deeper than the original one, especially when driving with the windows down. It does not have the constant droning sound when compared to some of the louder exhaust. It definitely feels less restrictive than the original one. Even though Mazda did not claim any numbers, I can feel the car pulls better as compared to the stock exhaust. I think the absolute numbers on the horsepower is not important. You can have good horsepower gains at high end but if the low end is affected as a trade off of gaining good numbers on the high, what is the point then when everyone is complaining on the torque on this car?

Just for the record, mine is the JDM spec.

From everything I've read, I would rank these just a bit differently. From quietest to loudest:

(1) OEM
(2) MazdaSpeed
(3) Racing Beat
(4) Borla
(5) Greddy
(6) HKS
...

Also:

- Any of the above with a high-flow cat and resonator: Add 1 to 2 times the noise of the exhaust it's used with
...
- Any of the above with a high-flow cat and NO resonator: Add 3 to 4 times the noise of the exhaust it's used with
...
- Any of the above with a midpipe only: Add 5 to 6 times the noise of the exhaust it's used with

Exactly! That's why the Mazdaspeed is so quiet. The Mazdaspeed RX-8 had a high flow cat on it stock.

that's bullshit, HKS don't make quiet exhaust, they never, i've used HKS and Blitz on my FD, and once you start your car, the entire street will wake up and said who the **** is that!!!!???? please......only ricers put loud exhaust on their rice rocket.

I would rather get an exhaust like the MazdaSpeed because it looks and sounds stock till you get on the gas. They are more likely to tune it to get the best output.

I just wish the MS system had a bit more sound (from what I'm hearing, anyway) and 4" tips. I'd be all over it then.
What I am doing is putting some 4" Magnaflow tips on the stock muffler, and just replacing the restrictive parts of the exhaust (ie. midpipe/cat/resonator).

Just had my MS exhaust fitted and i also replaced the filter with a K & N replacement element! Gains u will get will be at the high end obviously and as the the torque curve on the engine is quite flat its quite hard to detect, not like a turbo kicking in anyway! Well, i feel the system now breathes better, if change from 4th to 3rd i dont seem to feel the car lurch so much, just feels looser, if u get me! I wouldnt **** with the intake system except a replacement element, cat replacement pipe i heard will only give u an extra 3hp. Ha d a good race witha bike on some long hard corners! Put it this way he didnt keep up long!
