How do you like your RX-8?

I test drove the RX-8 today and was impressed. Are the doors for the backseat a burden to use? While unique, i wonder if they become tedious over time. Also, how is the cockpit for long drive---200+ miles? Would be interested in comments from those that have had one for a while.

i think its pretty comfortable also, i have cloth. but if u wanna lay your head back its not too comfortable. but its a sports car... you dont want your head back...

anyway ive had mine for 3-4 months now, and couldnt be happier. youll love getting into it every morning.

I was watching a person get out of there car ,and they had two open both side doors at once to get things out. It was very hard for them to move and it occured to me: I will never have the problem of that dam back door being open and in my way. I often take 600 mile work trips and its so comfortable , i tend to get bored.

I haven't had mine for a long time but the back doors are 1000Xs better than having to push your front seat forward so the person in the back seat has to get out. and I went 100 miles in the backseat and 100 miles back in the front seat and the front seat was no problem but the backseat was a bit tight but wasn't horrible.

I've had mine only for a couple of weeks but I've had several people in the back already, including a couple of friends around 6 ft tall for roughly 30-minute drives. Both seemed uncertain about the space in the back before getting in just looking at the back seats, and both were pleasantly surprised once they were in and were reasonably comfortable for the drive. The rear doors are quite useful and make it much easier to get in and out of the back seats (I've sat there myself), but I do worry about someone else closing them in the wrong order and damaging a latch or something (I know closing just the front door with the back door open with moderate force won't damage anything).

I know I'd rather have the doors than not given the 4 seats - I remember my parents having a hard time getting in and out of my old 2-dr Nissan 240SX when they very visiting last.

The backseats are plenty comfortable for most people, especially for me, but i dont sit back there much , the cockpit is very comfortable for drives of 200 miles plus. i do trips from vegas to san diego pretty regularily (375 miles) and am totally comfortable.

Interior very well thought out and comfortable. I drive 30 miles to work each way. I have had my car 1.5 weeks, and cannot get enough drive time, I find myself taking the long way home.

Is it as easy to get in the back seat as in my Audi Allroad Wagon? NO! Is it easier to get into than ANY 2 door car? DAMN RIGHT!

The doors work very well and are a brilliant concept. The car has the lines of coupe with almost all the practicality of a 4 door.

I have a young son and another on the way. Without 4 doors and a back seat, there is no way I could have justified getting this car to my wife.

I have gone on a 10 hour each way trip. I only stopped to get gas didn't feel tired or stiff at all. The ride is a lot of fun and very smooth. In fact, my wife slept most of the time and I could follow the occational speeder and make runs up to 100 - 110 without even waking her.

I find the back door is easier to open and throw something in the back, like when shopping, than the trunk or even the passenger seat. At 6'4" I have even sat in the back with no real problem except head room for the fun of it. Wouldn't want to ride there long thoiugh.

Hve drived ~800 miles in one day and would have gone further with no problem.

How do I like it?

If I could make any change, I'd put a second one in my driveway.

I second the thought. I need another for the driveway. This time an automatic in Titanium - just to play with the paddle shift. Looks like fun.

Really? I've become addicted to resting my head back on the headrest. That way, the entire seat cradles me, kinda like being in a jet fighter. It's very comfortable, and the only car I've been able to do that in.

My wife starts to fall asleep every time she gets into the car with me. She says it's just too darn comfortable in those seats, they're just so cozy and supportive. They're kinda like adult child seats, lol.

The doors are great! I always carry a notebook computer with me, and it's just so much easier to toss it in back. With a traditional four-door, you'd have to close your door, then walk past the rear door and open it. But with the suicide doors, you kinda do everything at once.

Very comfy for long trips... but the fuel milage... ouch

I've had mine for 5 days...
LIKES:
razor sharp handeling, appearance & styling , brakes, seat comfort, useable back seats, quiet ride for a sports car
DISLIKES:
Bose sucks, rear view mirror position, Bose sucks, needs more power

The likes far exceed the dislikes. Did I mention the Bose sucks?

The bose really isn't that bad. Try some CDs instead of FM. With the radio the sound is poor at best.

Now I know why I ONLY play CD's in my 8 - just happened naturally - must have been a subconcious reaction to the unimpressive sound from FM radio.

Like everyone else, I really like the back seat/freestyle doors.
Have never had a 6+ footer sitting in the back - everyone else has been comfortable (except in those fast corners!)

I might be the winner here: Last weekend I had three other people in the car. Two weigh about 350 pounds (or more?), one is 5'9" the other is 5'10". The third guy is 5'11" and maybe 200 pounds. I'm 5'11" as well (but thin). One fat guy in back behind me, the shorter fat guy in front and the taller guy behind the front seat. I must admit, it was tight, but it worked. The car sure seemed slow though.

The car weight about 3000 lbs. You've just added about 1100 lbs. for an increase of 37%. If you carried 37% more body weight, you'd be slow too! Just having some fun.

How's the 8 handle with the extra weight?

The car has amazing room. I took a couple of friends out a couple of days ago and we all fit in.

I'm 6'0 and both my friends are 6'4"
The only real problem was getting size 13 feed into the footwell in the back seat. Once he was in, we were all pretty comfortable.

I had trouble doing that in my 91' Audi A4.

Well usually with a nice white clam sauce and a glass of merlot. i know i know- you're thinking "Merlot with PASTA!!??" well i happen to like merlots so i drink what i like. but sometimes for lunch i will just do a quick saute with garlic and onions with some nice bread on the side.
