Question Types Of Tires On New 8's

I recently received my 8 and discovered the tires were Dunlop-SV SPORT 8000 (regular size) and not the usual Bridgestone Potenza's.

In further conversation with Mazda it seems this is a one only instance of this occurance.

Can anyone tell me which would be the best tire or are they comparable in performance and wear?

Thanks much

It's not like the Sport 8ks are bad. Frankly, if I had a choice, I would go with those Dunflops instead.

I think you'll find that those tires are actually Dunlop SP8090, not SP8000. Somewhere around December, Mazda added those tires as OEM alternate - since December, RX-8s have been fitted with either of the Bridgestone RE-040 or Dunlop SP-8090. It's certainly not a one-off. They are likely very comparable - I wouldn't care which I received (and I'd likely not buy either as a replacement! )

yea I have the dunlop 8090 (or was it 8060?) as well. But they cost too much I think.... switching over to yokohamas or toyos when they wear out

Those dunlops have better tread life from what I remember. It will be close to a year (in late July) owning my car and I currently have 15K on my bridgestones and will have to start looking for alternatives soon.
