:D

Someone asked for it ...

Well, I'm not fully accustomed to the car yet, so I can't imagine how it's gonna be in the future. But I love this car for all the different aspects of driving it allows (accelerating, slow cruising, speeding) and how it deals with those different roles.

Been driving fast cars before and been driving them fast too. Mercedes E was good, BMW 3 was good, but it was always just a car, solid german engineering, just what you expect for the money.

Working for a jet engine manufacturer, I test drove the 8 and thought "damn, that's it - those guys just have merged planes and cars". This car felt awfully close to the turbo-engine idea of continouus combustion to make something rotate. One month later I owned one, though the dealer insisted I would have to wait until August ... I simply didn't want to wait and started to ring up dealers if they had the colour and configuration I wanted. Two hours later, the deal was settled.

And I certainly stand at my window 20 times a day - just to catch a glimpse that car standing on the streets.

At the end of next week I'm making a trip to northern Italy, with the RX-8 and a girl I really like - now that's gonna be fun ... altough I doubt she'll let me drive my own car.

Combined with my favorite place in northern Italy - nothing, if the weather's fine!

My only doubt is that I will drive my 8 much - because I simply handed her the keys when I showed her the car for the first time (she obviously didn't dare to ask for them). Now, that was one interesting look on her face behind the wheel ...

Well, that place is reserved for a tatoo with my name, birthplace and birthday - mirrored of course - in case I forget who I am.

yeah i totally feel that, after the first test drive all i could think about was when id be able to get back into that car and drive it again, the car is such a smooth operator but such a predator at the same time...people keep comparing it to a cat and i totally agree. The car is graceful yet aggressive, agile, quick, beautiful...etc etc...i can go on for a long time.

northern italy sounds like a lot of curvy perfect roads, at least you'll be in the car if you arent driving hehe.

Man I hear so many wonderful stories of the RX-8's rotary engine as if it was something totally new!

I've owned a couple of FC RX-7's and driven enough FD twin turbos to know what to expect from any Mazda RX. A unique motor, striking appearance, and awesome handling have always been a part of these cars.

I would suggest any would-be RX-8 owner to go drive an RX-7 for a week.

ive always been curious about the rotaries, and id totally love to drive some iteration of the rx7, 1st gen, FC, FD, any of them just to get an idea of the history. I hear some really great stories aobut those twin turbo FD's, they look great and are faster than much more expensive cars. If i can find someone with a twin turbo FD, i would trade for a week hehe

Indeed, it's near perfect for a car that eats curves like the 8. Lots of small roads that wind up and down the mountains in 180° curves. Every car is to fun to drive there (I've owned many Fiat Pandas and believe it or not, they're better than most powerful cars there), but a sports car must be the ultimate fun on those roads.

And besides that, the food in northern Italy is something to die for.

As for the cat comparison, I second that. I've got six cats and other people in this forum already suggested that RX-8 owners seem to have a strong afinity for cats as well. The car also looks like a cat ready to prey on something.
