New owner with EPS issues
Hello, I am a new owner of a 2004 Rx8 6sp. Ive taken the time to read a bunch on these forums and I guess I will just type out some of the stuff i'm experiencing with my with my car.
I got the dreaded EPS issue. My flavor of power steering issue is manifesting as a U1900 code and the steering wheel icon on my dashboard.
The only description is CAN bus communication error. I have tried some of the more recommended quick fixes, blasting with connector cleaner, making sure the connectors under the overflow are not soaked, I have checked for continuity at various points along the wiring harness (torque sensor, rack, module, instrument cluster), also tested proper voltage on the power connectors that go to the EPS itself. Nothing seems to be out of ordinary.
A lot of people have posted about it but there's not enough of "I had code XXXX and it was fixed when replaced (EPS, wiring harness, rack)" I also see how many people have the issue fixed by changing the wire harness.
In my case, following the FSMs that are out there, a code of U1900 on the power steering tells you to pull the instrument cluster and check continuity between the CAN-lo and CAN-hi lines on the EPS and cluster connectors. My continuity is good, so i went ahead and bought a used EPS module. Once I receive that, I will troubleshoot some more. I will document findings and i guess if i find anything else out conclusive I will add to the general EPS thread.
