I bought a 2005 rx-8 a few months ago, that happened to have a metra kit with a 2-DIN Alpine radio, but I would like to swap a stock rx-8 radio in its place.
I have already bought a radio (see picture), and yesterday me and my dad already started disassembling the interior, since we tought it would just be a simple job of pop out old front panel and radio, unplug it, plug in new radio and pop it in place. But what we discovered, is tthat the wiring behind the radio looks completely different from what we expected based on the connections on the stock radio (see picture). I have been able to find a lot of information on the net about installing a Metra kit, but nothing about removing one and restoring the stock radio. Another thing which seems to be a bit of a problem, is that the thing that I assume to be the Axxess port, seems to be behind some piece of trim, which I am not sure how to get to. We have reinstalled the ashtray and a few other small trim bits, which you can see in the pictures.
I believe my car to have the Bose audio system, and the part that I'm assuming is an accessport or other similar devise is the small black plastic box with the metra kit part number (95-7510HG) on it.
That looks like a bunch of aftermarket wiring. Can you peel it back to where the actual original harness starts? Where do the RCA cables go? Is there an amp and sub in the car?
That's not an accessport, but it could be part of the Metra kit. Either way, follow the wires to find the original harness.
