AZ New 2004 RX-8 Owner

Hello,
I recently purchased a 2004 RX-8 from an auction. I purchased it knowing it needed engine work. I am in the process of pulling the engine in preparation for having it rebuilt.
Information on all of the forums is very helpful. Thank you all for sharing you experiences and knowledge.

Spun bearing maybe?

Couple of reasons I believe it needs to be rebuilt. Previous owner stated so. I was able to ge the engine to run, but turned it off immediately because it didn't sound good.
I corresponded with Kevin at Rotary Resurrecrtion and followed his direction to pull the oil filter nd cut it open and look for copper particles. I did so and there was in fact copper to be seen.
Kevin states that it most like is a spun bearing failure.
I am debating on whether to have the engine rebuilt or call it quits and maybe part it out. The interior is in great shape and I am guessing the manual transmission is operable since the car has about 56k miles on it.

Option 3: get a rebuilt motor, trade what's left of yours in as core, and enjoy many miles of smiles

Loki,
Suggestions as to where I can purchase a rebuilt engine on an exchange basis? Thanks.

From Kevin at Rotary Resurrection, for example. There are others: Pineapple Racing, Derwin Tuning, Pettit Racing... Mazda (though not sure about Mazda taking cores, you just buy the engine). It will cost something but it'll be known good .
