Turning easier in left direction
Turning easier in left direction
Hi all, again, my RX8 just sprung another issue (yay) it's now easier to turn left than it is to turn right, it's happening when the car is both moving or stopped.
Any ideas on the cause? I'm used to this all the time with the car moving and usually it's not hard to fix, haven't really seen it happen when the cars stopped though, that's a new one for me

This is an issue of your electronic power steering. How it works is the control module learns where the middle or zero is. Then it helps apply force either left or right of that when it reads you applying torque on your steering wheel.
Your symptom is that it has lost home or thinks it is off to one direction. Thus it basically thinks you are to the right. To relearn home you must go KEY ON, and then turn the wheel all the way to the left and all the way to the right. This will relearn home.
HOWEVER, you probably lost home because of another issue. Check and clean the connectors on the radiator fans that go to the power steering harness. These tend to get coolant poured on them from the reservoir radiator cap hose. Otherwise it could be a simple grounding issue, just take off the ground on the rack and the one on the crossbar and wire brush them. Lastly it could be a failed Power steering control module, which tend to melt or corrode internally. However spending 100$ before doing simple wiring fixes is silly.
Most people tend to replace the radiator cap drain hose with a longer one that dumps under the car.
