New to my dream build Rx8 07

Hey guys,

So I got my Rx8 07 auto, it was on my bucket list for a long time. Wanted a manual, but this one was in good condition and decided to go with.

I currently have these codes:

Not sure what should I be looking at.

Also, here is my setup:

The car has a bad leak, I need to top the oil when I use it (haven't been using it). Looks leaking from the m underneath, middle at approximately the front wheels distance.

rotaries use oil but check the pan seal. you are gonna want to get the undertray cause it helps direct airflow for cooling. not sure about the long list of codes but check battery and ground connections, they can cause weird problems

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your new RX-8! As for the oil leak, check the oil cooler lines in the left front wheel well. They are prone to leaking at the fittings. I've replaced several for customers over the years and it seems that they are prone to rusting and leaking.

The next thing I would do is replace all the aftermarket intake tubing with the original air box. The aftermarket units are know to cause power loss and can cause issues over the long run. Mazda did a great job designing the original air box and VFAD intake system.

Each code will need to be looked at and diagnosed. Brake pedal input circuit, I would be looking at the wiring for the brake switch and ensure the switch is good and adjusted properly. You will have to go through the intake codes independently as well.

Thanks both for your reply, will do. Now when I went to see the car I drove it and never overheated, now after 10 - 15 mins it wanted to overheat, any idea? Can it be related to the oil leak?

You're missing the plastic under tray under the front bumper and engine. This is very important to cooling as it forces air into the radiator instead of around it. Very common to overheat without it and these engines do not survive overheats well. So.. don't let it get over 230F. Ideally not even 220F and get that undertray back in place.

Not related to oil leak.

If that's a true AEM intake, you can keep it, it's one of the few good ones. But you do want to make sure there are no open hoses or nipples, including under the throttle body where you can't see it.

And no secondary air pump, so hopefully you don't have a catalytic converter either, because the pump was there to protect it.

The gold foil also makes no sense but I guess if you like the look...

What kind of info did you get from the previous owner about modifications and those codes? Since you just bought the car, I feel like would be best placed to explain what happened here?

Hello,

I didn't receive any information on the mods or what was done on the engine. When I tried the car it didn't overheat, now.. I see fans are not working, how would 230f looks like on the original temp gauge?

I saw that this hose has a crack, the one in the
Middle

You'll want to replace that cracked hose and also make sure it's routed correctly. They don't look correctly placed. You can google the vacuum diagram.

230F is when the gauge starts to move off center. So... If it's moving, you're in the danger zone. At speed the fans aren't necessary, but if they don't turn on at all, you'll quickly overheat in traffic or city driving.

Yes, I haven't driven it for long distances but around the block when the motor is warm, if I go to a complete stop it wants to overheat

Damn is that RX-8 looking mighty fine. Not a big fan of the single exhaust exit myself, but other than that definitely a thumbs up.

Quick Q: What wheel size are you running here?

loose fan connection, wired them, and put them on a switch.
