hard to price these as I'm not seeing much in the way of comparable past sales. Have a set of real-deal lightly used in great shape authentic Spirit-R JDM BBS wheels. Can post more pics of the entire set for interested parties. Pics below compare the S-R to the R3 finish. PM me if interested!
Out of curiosity I just checked Yahoo Japan and found a decent set of Spirit-r with caps (light curb, no big deal imo) for a little over $1100 usd (plus shipping and duty of course). The unfortunate reality is that the RX8 isn't a chassis whose owners are willing to spend on quality parts when compared to something like the FD.
Imo when you're above $2k usd there's no shortage of options available to potential buyers and anyone would be hard pressed to not buy something a bit more performance oriented at that price point. Especially for jdm enthusiasts when you consider how good the usd-jpy conversion has been.
^Appreciate you posting. As you probably know I've been in the rotary community a very long time, and have been buying and selling FD parts as well as contributing to the troubleshooting/maintanence/modding groupthink since around 1998.
I'm definitely not looking to price gouge anyone, it's more important to me that these wheels go to a good home and see some use on the streets as designed. I'm also aware that Mazdaspeed/Spirit-R parts for the 8 are not the same as for the 7
Getting parts from YAJ isn't the easiest process here in the USA, and as you mention shipping and customs/duties/taxes are a definite consideration. I've stopped bringing in wheels from Japan due to the massive increases in shipping costs. There's also IMO considerable risk in getting used parts from YAJ that all falls on the original buyer-- case in point a presumably 'mint' Mazdaspeed rear strut tower bar for the FD that I paid a pretty penny for, and upon receipt the AL threaded holes for the privacy hole mounting hooks were cross-threaded and not useable.
Having said all that I agree that the $3500 price point is lofty, and for those interested in some nice authentic BBS OEM/JDM wheels send me a PM and we can talk turkey
I got to keep the R3 wheels on the rx8 for a bit and interested in these for my new project car. What are you looking for as i don't want to offend with some low ball offer. Lol
A few more pictures of the entire set outside on a cloudy day-- They're in the USA already landed from Japan with zero BS tariffs tacked on. I listed them elsewhere for $3250, IMO these are the ultimate for an 8 OEM+ build
