My general first suggestions for anyone that picks up an rx8 are below. These counteract the majority of issues people have with reliability.....funny that most of the bad reputation is just normal car upkeep stuff.

1. New battery, highest CCA available $300
2. Upgraded 2.7hp starter $80
3. Fluids once over. ( I use 5w20RoyalPurple for the engine. Redline MT90 for transmission and diff fluid)
4. NGK sparkplugs (2 leading and 2 trailing) $80
5. New midpipe, catted or decat $730 or $590 (bhr or racingbeat)
6. LS Coil Kit $350

Longer term:

1. Versatune or Mazdaedit $500
2. rotarycompressiontester.com compression tester. $350 (he does sales occasionally if you keep an eye out on the forums)
