MAZDA USA Sales TANK 60% Down massively in May

MAZDA USA Sales for May

Wow, even though there were 2 less selling days for last month to be down over 60% is huge.
Mazda usually gives some sort of explanation, but this time nothing apart for 2 less selling days.

So is it supply issues or Chip supply issues or something else.
Just look at the numbers..

Mazda 3 down 80% over May 2021.
MX-5 down 70% (average).
CX- range in the 60s% down.
MX-30 Electric only 35 unit sales, but is only sold in Cal at the moment.

What do you think it is...

Maybe its just me, but I have felt like the last few marketing efforts they made have been pretty lack luster. Compared to other manufacturers I often forget the Mazda commercials and ads even exist.

It's not just Mazda. Toyota is down 30% May year over year. Honda is down 57% (!). Etc.

They all blame lower inventory, either manufacturing supply shortages or delays on delivery to the US.

May 2021 was itself a 50ish % drop in the market. Not a great time to be a car company.

Yeah well I think there are bigger issues at stake, just a gut feeling but I think the WORLD economy is in for one all mighty financial crash, way bigger than 2008.

My local dealership had a grand total of 30 cars on the lot.. it’s crazy.. sales are down because they have little to no cars to sell. It’s nuts.. I hope they survive.

Not surprising, they simply don't have vehicles to sell. Lots are empty. I also don't think the cx-50 is going to be the success they want it to be. I've seen WAY more 2022 CX-5s on the road than cx-50s. They need to get the CX-70 out ASAP, and get it right. The CX-5 is long overdue for a proper replacement.

I bought a new Mazda 3 in January, so I've done my part.

Sad to read. I'm really digging the new Mazda3 but ours is currently down at the dealer waiting on warranty work; intermittent PCM connectivity issue as well as an airbag malfunction of some sort. Min 2-4 weeks they told us, my wife was very disappointed to say the least.

In the meantime we've had the unfortunate pleasure of driving around the 'new 2022 CX-5' and I have to say that it's a completely underwhelming experience in every way. It's driving dynamics / road behavior and engine performance are absolutely atrocious imo. It maybe took 100 miles before I formed a full opinion and I find it suspiciously odd how every auto jounro seems to somehow rave about how x, y, z of a product it is. I personally couldn't disagree more and argue that my wife's 2016 X1 was a much better vehicle despite it's age.

I'm sure with the turbo engine (or e-motor boost) I'd be more satisfied with available power but nothing about it makes me think / feel 'premium' vehicle imo. I have seen couple CX-50's around which have a very unique presence. It will be interesting to see how their (CX-50) sales develop.
