S2 AirCon Controls in S1 With Aftermarket HU

On the UK club website someone asked if the S2 Air Con controller could be fitted to an S1 instead of a Metra kit when fitting an aftermarket HU.

UK cars all have Bose with auto air con. All the wiring S1 diagrams that I could find show S1 Bose with manual air con where there are many differences in wiring, module pins and components compared to diagrams for the S2 Bose with auto air con (attached).

Purely out of interest, does anyone know how feasible it is to fit an S2 air con control system in place of the Bose auto air con or have the wiring diagrams for an S1 Bose auto air con?

Hi, I would think it would be a lot of work\cost to retrofit the S\2 A|c into the S1.
I am not aware of any A\C components being directly interchangeable and the S2 A\C amplifier connections are not pin for pin with the S1 - page 65\66 of the linked PDF.

Also, much of the S2 is CanBus and I would be very surprised if the controller <> a\c amp protocol was still the antiquated 4800 8E1 serial used in the S1 - but I have been wrong before.

I do have a working alternative to current solutions, although global semi-conductor shortages have the project on hold until parts are readily available.

fyi that you can’t necessarily trust that online service and electrical manual information, especially for late 2005 and onward S1 RX8s.

Thanks for the information and the PDF files. I want to try to figure out a similar issue on my own. I also wanted to add that I found a good online editor https://www.youtube.com/@PDFGuru that makes it really easy to edit these manuals and add notes when needed. I’d been looking for a tool with a clean, user-friendly interface that’s simple to use, because many of the editors I tried before felt a bit too complicated for me. It might be useful for someone else as well.
