I am go to look at an 06 rx8 and the seller says the coolant "bust while he was on the freeway" I am wondering if this is an overheating problem or something more serious. All help is greatly appreciated.

 

If you are not prepared to replace the engine stay clear of this one. Coolant bust means a blown coolant seal which requires a rebuild, unfortunately.

 

Thank you very much. I offered 600 for it just a little bit ago and am not completely opposed to rebuilding the engine. When I was looking at the car, the woman said the coolest came out of the reservoir which isn't in the same place as the seal as you know. Could it be something else. She has someone else looking at it now so they might get it and I will find one without this problem. (I am very very new)

 

Pressure caused the it to burst. Bad coolant seal lets in exhaust gases and will need rebuild. Unless it was not bled but even then that could lead to overheating

 

Yeah. After I wrote that message I tried to write another saying that I had now understood why. I also didn't get the car so I don't have to worry about anymore. Some dumbass who knows nothing about rotary's bought the very bad condition rx8 for 3000 dollars. I offered 600. Thanks for giving me an explanation.
