Resonator that can take the heat?

Hi,

I have this really beautiful muffler delete Y pipe I’m running with a decat. The problem? Not the volume per se but the drone at 3000 RPM on highway. Also, at 3000 RPM there is sympathetic vibration of the exhaust piping. You can hear the sound of the engine + the sound of the piping vibrating. It sounds like a sitar drone, like a snake charmer

So what I want to do is add one straight through resonator on each horn of the pipe to kill drone and sympathetic vibration. But I don’t know what kind of resonator will take the heat of the rotary? Since I’m using two and they are far back from the engine, could I get away with fiberglass?

thanks!

@TeamRX8 You will probably be amazed to learn that I did search the forum and there does not seem to be a consensus. Some people say they got away with fiberglass. Some say stainless steel is better, but it will still burn. Others say ceramic is the only option. What do you say, Team? Care to share your knowledge of rotaries?

I recently jumped through all these same hoops and went with ceramic mat. Fibreglass is problematic at best on rotaries, worse with decat.
On your resonator thread, most are just pretty and change the resonance a bit. Dont worry about pretty, moreso about placement. If you like looking at pretty while working under car then go for it! I'd rather spend those dollars elsewhere on the car.😀

Cool, did you build it yourself or...? I don't see any resonators with ceramic packing for sale...

No and no to your question. I did not build the resonator myself. I recently modified a stock backbox and settled on ceramic mat inside (in other thred). Ususally a thin packing of fibreglass at best in resonators. I had this fibreglass removed prior to welding in the resonator at back end of midpipe (you could add in another res into catback for deeper tone if wanted, i just chose not to). This was to avoid any melted bits that my have clogged my system downsteam. Happy with results and worth the effort IMO.

Check out BlackHalo. Theirs is ceramic and well suited to the heat.

if you’re referring to the BHR spiral resonator, it has no packing.

Good thing you skipped by my suggestion, about 20db difference in my setup and gets rid of most of the drone at high way speed.
The resonator that came with my TurboXS mid pipe was gone I think the first rip I did

but wouldn’t an auger insert restrict flow too much?

the moroso spiral flow muffler has a tube that is almost as big as the inlet and then the spirals go over that. But with the auger insert, you’re stuck with the size of your piping…
