Ok so as title states which tore would you guys like. Through my dealer I can get the falken a about $95 a tire cheaper. I’ve run the ps’4 and they are great but looking for something a bit cheaper and seem to see these getting a lot of attention.

I daily the PS4’s on two cars. The Rx8 and a merc e63. I can tell you they are great tires. I can’t compare them directly to the 660’s. But I can compare them to the continental extreme contact DW tires. I like the PS4’s over the conti’s by a lot. I hope that helps some if you’ve used the conti’s. Handling is about the same.. but the road noise is much better.. so it’s a much more comfortable ride.

 

What use do these see? And are we talking about PS4 or PS4S?

For DD PS4S is good, but remember that Michelin carries a premium. I was pretty happy with the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 for summer tires. They can reasonable handle anything you throw at them on the street.

PS4S is more of a street tires with track capabilities. If you are doing very casual tracking then they will do, but if you are serious, there are definitely better choice.

I don't know if it's the C7 Corvette or the tires but the PS4S on my C7 Corvette was still kinda noisy. They feel no more quiet than the Supercar 3 on my current Camaro. I am giving it the benefit of the doubt here because of Corvette's composite body panels. Might have something to do with that.

 

I will be shopping light weight rims this week.
Let’s say it will be a mix of driving. I wouldn’t call it daily. It is a nice weather go beat the crap out of. So not bad weather and not a traditional daily.
I love my pilot sport 4s but man replacing 4 of those plus rims can get pricey. I’ve run the pilot sport cup 2’s also but boy they wear quick and really cost a good bit. But those are all on my rs trying to find a nice balance for my rx8. Plus I can’t seem to keep myself from doing donuts and burnouts with the car. Something I sorely miss with an awd.
Let’s say 8-10 track days a year.
I did less than 10k on the car last summer and went through 3 sets of tires. Mostly trying to repave the road in front of my friends house.

 

If you don't mind going a little wider then I would recommend the GoodYear Eagle F1 Supercar 3 on my Camaro SS 1LE to you. A bit less daily friendly than PS4S, admittedly, but they perform better on the track and they aren't hideously priced. Even with how big my tires are on my Camaro, I am looking at CAN$1800 a set taxed and installed, while a set of PS4S would have cost me an extra grand.

Tire Rack shows that there are a few 18 sizes available, with the 245/40/R18 costing US$200 each. Very reasonable given the track performance.

If you want reference points, generally it's agreed that SC3 sits in between PS4S and Cup 2, with it leaning towards Cup 2 more. Tire life isn't as good as PS4S, but you also don't have to worry about them wearing out too quickly on back roads, especially given that RX-8 is a lot lighter and less torquey than a Camaro SS.

 

Lot of sound advice offered up already. The PS4s is a great street tire and capable of a running few hot laps on track before gumming out.

Imo if you're doing burn outs and doughnuts in your 8, I'd recommend getting the Falkens. They're only $95 a tire so I'd say it was a no-brainer; purchase a few sets at that price point by comparison. The Michelins' are very fine tires but it doesn't make sense to pay such a premium when you're planning to hoon on them.

And since you said you're in the market for lightweight wheels, I'd suggest checking out Enkei's RR line. Decent quality at reasonable price.

That’s kinda what I was thinking when looking at falken.
Those rims were also on the list with advanti hybris rims. Those are very light also

 

I miss the part that said you do burnouts, in which case, get something cheap and all-season. I would keep it separate from good track tires. Heck, take a page out of 86's book and get some eco tires designed for Prius.

The Supercar 3 isn't good for burnouts. I haven't tried it myself, but those supposedly get sticky enough when hot that even a Camaro SS can barely do a burnout after two or three of them.
