So I am doing a full brake caliper clean/ paint/ general serious makeover while off the car. I have taken care to keep track of all bolts and slider pins original locations.
My question is about the correct location of the rubberised coated slider pin (red circle) in front calipers. Top or bottom or does not matter? Left and right were in different positions hence my Q.
Also why this coating on just one slider pin? What is the purpose as the rear ones all look identical without the rubber coating andc fit in any location.
Please school me if you have experience, as I would like to reassemble the correct way rather than the way it was when I purchased the car.

As to the why the rubberised coating is on one slider pin on front only? I am thinking it's to ensure quiet braking operations???

 

I think it’d rattle and make noise over bumps etc. without at least one on there

 

Sounds reasonable, however there is no coated pins on the rears. At least not on my car and now I am wondering if there should be one rubberised coated pin in each caliper? They all appear to be the same OD although I have not measured them up yet! Maybe rears don't make noise as such?

 

I don't know, go call the Mazda engineer in Japan or something
