I just got hold of a 2007 Mazda RX-8(Japanese Import), 6 speed automatic, with 141,000kms, the redline is 7500rpm.
And it has the full sand-beige leather package which is quite nice.
It has a slight misfire under 3000rpm but once over that it roars all the way to 7500rpm.
Im still in the process of getting to look at it, starting with the compression ratio check then moving on to common misfire problems troubleshooting.
Now i dont know if its a 4 port engine or 6 port, and if its a standard rx8 or a type e. Can someone please shed some light on these.
I've attached some pics of the engine bay, intake tubes, and also the front bumper where there is two coolers (idk for what).
If it's a 2007 it's a 6 port engine. It's still not as powerful as the manual transmission option though. The automatics everyone here tends to avoid because they are not as fun, have less power and that Mazda has a bad reputation from their horrible automatic transmissions. My advice because I do happen to own one automatic is always manually shift it. If you leave it in drive it will shift to like 4th gear right away even if you are doing 25 mph. You gotta rev this engine or you will ruin it.
I recommend solving the misfire problem ASAP, especially if you have a catalytic converter. Misfires kill cats and engines. Get onto troubleshooting. The link I posted above and in my signature will have more info.
