All it left to be done is custom towhook serve as impact protection

Looks pretty good. Any details on flow straighteners used (aka honeycomb straightener)? I'm not sure what you mean by impossible to get a proper kit, are the AEM/Mazdaspeed intakes no longer available?

yes, but that kit has it’s issues too. An airflow straightener is a waste of time for NA imo. I haven’t run one since around 2007/2008. Which the one on that kit is restrictive and a bit fubar in design.

if you want a glass smooth idle on a Renesis engine then either put a heavier flywheel on it or raise it to 1000 rpm.

however, a pair of aluminum elbows and several cuts/welds would have accomplished the exact same thing for a lot less cost and effort, along with being lighter. Not really the correct material for the job imo. Carbon fiber would be best, then aluminum.

The shipping and tax add up might just well build the one here

there really wasn't any need for it to be routed down into the flow path to the radiator then

MAF readings are all over places without screens, even removing one screen would cause high/low positive false reading.
Unless messing with ECU tables.
On my tests with no MAF screen = messed up engine under 4000rpm, hard start, shaking and all other funny things.

you couldn’t get it to work while others and I could, that’s no surprise.

Neither AEM on cold air intakes nor all other after market air boxes.
