I was considering replacing my 6 in 2021 but this would make me consider hanging on to it until 2022. Hopefully Mazda is able to continue development.

Excellent news - now if they can have a turbo-charged version and MT, they've hit it!

I'd love to have one NA with a 6MT. Unfortunately, Mazda reads comments like these to decide what not to do.

Well, it will be interesting what they decide to do with the Mazda 6.

If it becomes RWD, great.
Hopefully they will offer an optional AWD version, otherwise people will complain that it doesn't come in AWD, and they won't buy it because of that reason.

If it comes with an Inline 6 cylinder engine, great.
Hopefully it will come with a N/A Inline 4, a turbocharged Inline 4, and a turbocharged Inline 6, and a N/A V-8 as options, otherwise people will complain that it doesn't come with their favorite flavor of engine, and they won't buy it because of that reason.

Hopefully it will come in a nice 4 door sedan shape, and look good.
Hopefully it will also come in 2 door coupe, 2 door hatchback, 4 door hatchback, 4 door wagon, and 4 door SUV versions, otherwise people will complain that it doesn't come with their favorite flavor of body, and they won't buy it because of that reason.

And finally, if it comes here to the US market, great.
Hopefully it will also come as a Toyota branded vehicle, otherwise people are going to complain that it is sold only in Mazda dealers, and they won't buy it because of that reason.

I think I covered every possible complaint that we tend to see for new Mazda products.

Oh wait, I completely left off the HP and transmission type bitching.
Ah **** it. You guys figure out that one, I don't care anymore.

BC.

It's not as bad as it sounds... In fact, most manufacturers are doing things this way: make one platform and then use it for different types of vehicles. For instance, Honda Fit and HR-V share the same platform despite being different vehicles on the outside. It brings the development cost down from economy of the scale. You just call a Mazda 6 SUV a CX-5, and there you go.

The MT wouldn't to be too far off the table if they can just take the Miata manual trans and modify it to be stronger to handle the extra torque and power. Economy of the scale will come into play then and make the R&D cheaper.

Other than the engine options I don't see everything else being too far-fetched.

Actually, I was more ripping on the fact that everyone comes up with excuses on why they won't buy a Mazda product, than I was actually ripping on Mazda for the products that they build.

So, they are building a BMW with worse resale value.. Awesome!

No really. Not trying to be an ***. I love Mazda, but they face a LOT of challenges in their chosen direction--actually in any direction.

And... While waiting for Mazda to finally build me something I would be interested in, I bought a BMW.
