Pop And Bang Map?

I was looking to make a pop and bang map for my rx8. I was wondering what I need to change and what those values should be.

Retard leading and trailing timing to minimum across all rev range at low load(<0.1875).
If you have a cat please don’t do it.

You mean, you want to send more unburned fuel out the exhaust so it pops and bangs?

Sounds like a good way to destroy your cat, make less power, and possibly build up carbon faster so you'll need a rebuild sooner.

But hey, you do you.

I do not have a cat, I have a 3” pipe to a exotic speed cat back (with the rotary tips). This tune will definitely not be the daily tune. I plan on running the “economizer” tune mostly. Yes I know a pop and bang tune is not healthy. I already am looking into REW swapping. I have 113k and minimum compression I just wanna have some fun before my seals go out.

Retard timing like 30 degree's and add fuel in the low load (20+ inches of Hg) and high RPM parts of the map..... Gas it up then jump off the pedal at high RPMs....

My bad for not being clear.
The minimum means -20 for leading and -25 for trailing. And disable decel fuel cut by setting the RPM to 9000.

I'm datalogging right now and based on the AFR's I am seeing, the DFCO table does not work. Just as an FYI.

The DFCO table is actually for ignition timing. Without enable that the ecu will only retard 5 degrees of timing instead of 25.

Well that's not good. Wildly misleading at best. Does this mean that there is no true DFCO table in the RX-8 ECU that Versatuner has access to?

I think the other way. WIth DFCO enabled, the ECU probably does not inject fuel when decel, so the ignition timing is altered to "DFCO mode" , with that disabled, there's fuel injected and the ecu will have to spark or the emission staandard will not be met. Just guessing.
The DFCO table in VT is indeed DFCO instead ignition timing, car acts a bit weird when decel now.

So there is no way to make a pop and bang map? I’m just learning.

There is, you just have to manage the throttle to get the engine in the lowest engine load area of the ignition and fuel maps.

I am hoping that the odd behavior a few of us have noticed with the DFCO table is addressed and then there will be a true way to have the behavior occur automatically each time you let off throttle in gear.

Right now you want the following:

Leading Ignition 1 Table:
Lowest engine load column
RPM > 2000
Set the values to -20 for each rpm cell

Trailing Ignition 1 Table:
Lowest engine load column
RPM > 2000
Set the values to -25 for each rpm cell

DFCO table
Engine temp > 30C
Set rpm to 9000+

These changes will get you the full rice crispy effect if you play with the throttle pedal a little.

The Air Fuel tables in the lowest engine load column may need adjustment as well if you want more or less drama. There is however such a thing as to much fuel though

Well that worked lol, I followed the whole guide. I do not have to mess with pedal at all. It is a little extreme though. I put mine to 5000 and put leading to -15 and trailing to -20. Unfortunately didn’t get to test it because tire popped. I’ll keep updated though. Thank you so much

some people think that “Never go full ‘tard” is a challenge contest

that’s not aggressive, it’s just plain stupid.
