ON GTA Recommended Maintenance/Performance Shops

Hi,

Looking for recommendations for maintenance/performance shops in the GTA that know what they’re doing regarding the RX8 and rotary engines? I’ve had some bad experience with going to Mazda lately...

My 2005 RX8 GT is in need of some work / tuning and I’m thinking about a turbo install.

Thanks in advance,

Rob

In bolton there's a shop called Garage 911 they're very knowledgeable with rotaries, slightly outside of the GTA but not too far depending where you are

Marco at RX tuning & performance in Oakville is probably your best bet, highly regarded in the area. Lots of builds and stuff on social media to check out. I think there is another in Kitchener but I'm not as familiar with their work.

In the GTA Mazmark auto in scarborough (google them) has a lot of experience with rotary engines and 8's

Hey everyone, haven't been on this site in ages. I have owned my rx8 for the last 12 years. Never winter driven. I think its time for a rebuild. creeping up on 144K. I reached out to Marco at RX Tuning as well as Mazmark. wondering if anyone has dealt with either of them lately. Thanks!

Marco won't rebuild you an engine he'll just get a mazda reman and swap it out. He doesn't believe in rebuilding renesis engines. Can-Saf will though if you contact them. Also so would Rx7 specialties but you would have to ship them the engine which isn't that bad I've done it a couple times before

Unfortunately pulling the engine and shipping it off is not something I have the capability of doing living in a condo with underground parking. I will look into Can-saf. They are located in Oshawa? I also looked into Joe Ferguson in Walkerton but he is currently not taking on any work until his new shop is built. Mazmark said they would do a rebuild if the housings are still good.

From personal experience, I highly recommend replacing the housings. Can-saf is located in Oshawa. I've never dealt with them personally but I know they are there and offer rebuilds. Joe Ferguson is a good builder but I know he has a backlog. Duncan Wood in Guelph deals mainly with rx7s but worth asking him if he'll do an Rx8 rebuild. What makes you think yours is done have you comp tested it?

I am from Guelph actually and never heard of Duncan Wood. I have been out of the game too long haha. I have not had a compression test done yet but the last 2 years I have had some longer then normal hot start times. Most recently I had a ESS code pop up. I pulled the sensor and cleaned it completely and reinstalled but didn't seem to fix the 25 second long starting issue. I ordered a new sensor and it just arrived today. I am going to install it and do the 20 brake stomp reset and see if anything changes. I also have new plugs on the way. Realistically I am just trying to be proactive.

If you're on Facebook you should shoot him a message in the Canada Rotary group. He could also likely do a comp test for you. I'm about an hour from Guelph if you wanted one done I could do it as well I have an RCT 5.2. I hope the new sensor helps! Rebuilds aren't as intimidating as they seem after you've done a couple haha, just a lot of time and a bit expensive
