Does anyone have recommendations on aftermarket speakers that will fit the stock center location without too much modification? (This is to replace the BOSE center/front speaker, part number F151-66-960)

I can’t answer your question, but know that replacing any of the Bose speakers with a non-Bose speaker is not a simple plug-&-play proposition. It’s complicated. Probably best to find a replacement Bose center-channel speaker — or rip out the Bose system entirely and replace with something else.

 

Why is it so difficult to replace. I wanted to do components but the guy just recommended me to replace the tweeters and leave the speakers on the bottom. What size are they like 8 inch or something. Was gonna go 6.5 inch components.

 

As far as I remember, the impedance of the Bose speakers are all non-standard - this is why it is difficult to find an aftermarket replacement. Although the center speaker may be different... measure your existing speaker to know.

 

So you cannot just replace all the speakers in the front with the correct size?

 

Size is not the important criteria - if you still have the Bose amp and crossover, the door speakers should be 1.9 ohms.

Typically, Bose runs their speaker impedance in the neighborhood of 2 ohms. Most aftermarket speakers are in the neighborhood of 4. Recommendation is to replace with impedance as close as you can get or the system becomes imbalanced. Basically, a 2 ohm speaker will play twice as loud as a 4 ohm (given the same sensitivity rating), with the same volume setting, but thats not the whole story. You must test the one you intend to replace and try to buy one with as close an impedance to the original as you can get it.
I remember the JBL GTO series having very low impedance. Dont know if that still holds true.
