DIY: TPMS Lamp Disable Instrument Cluster Mod

There are a few threads on turning off the TPMS light but I did not see one here showing how to just disable the lamp. My track car has no sensors in its wheels and the lamp starts blinking after awhile. So I disabled it per the instructions below.

Discalimer: This is for off-road use only.

STEP 1: Remove Instrument cluster. Follow this excellent DIY thread: https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-do-...cluster-42204/

It should look like this when viewed from the back.

STEP 2: We need to remove just the back translucent cover. Remove the six screws:

The two at the top need to come out so the black piece can move up just a little for clearance in the next step:

STEP 3 (above) : Remove the cover. The top black part may need to swing up just a little to clear. Now we can see the back of the circuit board. The white circle shows where we will need to work.

NOTE: The circuit board has number PLU70-00-01A. I have also done this on PLU70-00-01E. I do not know that this works on any other part numbers.
The mod to make is to remove a jumper that is designated "JG" the best way is to use a soldering iron, but if you want to be a hack, just grab it with a plier and twist.

Step 4: We want to remove the jumper designated "JG" It is circled in the next image:

Here is it with the jumper removed:

Step 5: Re-assemble in reverse order.

Some Final notes:
  • The text on the PCB pictured above is white in color. The other board I have is black in color.
  • The factory shop manual says to not leave the instrument cluster face down for fear the grease in the gauges may leak onto the clear plastic. I would leave it face-up if it needs to sit for any length of time.
  • With this mod, the TPMS light will not illuminate. You can undo it by replacing JG. You could put a switch in place of JG and then switch between enabled and disabled, but again this is for off-road use only.
  • Do not disassemble any further than shown.

Nice!! My car is exclusively track and autocross and no TPMS, so i plan to do this one. Thanks!

PS, you are calling the jumper RG... but on the cluster it appears to be JG...?

Yes, that should be JG. I have edited the two posts above to correct it. Thanks!

Nice...

Um, I got a sheet of those little garage sale stickers, the round ones, and spray painted them black. I stuck one over the light, on the lens.

I hope my title was clear enough -- this mod is one way to disable the TPMS lamp. Adding tape, paint, stickers, etc. is a way of blocking the light. Different, but would make an interesting DIY also.
