AB Windshield replacement

Hey guys, I've been requesting quotes for a windshield replacement in Calgary, and they're all around $600.

Is that really what a new windshield goes for? Or is it the post-winter demand?

If you have the auto daylight sensor and rain sensor on your windshield, yeah, it's pretty pricey.

Sounds about right, especially if that's replacement including labour.
A that's probably an aftermarket one, last year I wanted to get a not-sensing-anything Mazda one for my 2004 and it was 750. I got it, but it was broken during shipment.

Yep, I have them both.

I asked about that, the quotes weren't too far apart for aftermarket and OEM glass. Did you buy the windshield to install yourself?

No I had a shop buy and install it. I don't know what the full bill came to, insurance paid for it.

Interesting. The price here says it's $530 in parts before tax.

In BC, ICBC has a comprehensive insurance for windshields now. If you have chips, they get fixed for free, and if you need to replace it, you pay $200 and ICBC pays for the rest.

I have comprehensive with Intact, but I don't think they cover windshields in Alberta.

I can't speak to this specific windshield, but historically autoglass shops have one price for claims going through insurance and another for people paying out of pocket. Out of pocket is typically a lot less, like 1/4 the price. If you haven't already, call some independent shops.

Rock auto has the part for $400 CDN. I'm sure shipping would be terrible and you would have to pay for installation, etc. but it gives one hope it's possible to find a cheaper option.
