Now I have had my car flooded about a year ago(battery was going bad), but if I can recall it sounded totally different. I could be wrong.
115 k miles, I replaced all coils and plugs when I bought car 3 yrs ago(98k).
Can someone point in the right direction or rule something out. Not to savvy with cars, but we will see.

It's difficult to hear the details of the starting sound, you may want to record it from outside with the hood open.

 

Ok I'll do that on my next video. It will be this weekend, I'm single and I get my son to record under the hood. I'm just curious if anything got to wet under the hood.......although we've had some snow before and never had any trouble. Don't think the vented hood with be a major factor, but just throwing it out as a possibility. From looking, everything appears dry.

ive always wondered about that aswell.. i love a vented hood, but it rains like crazy here sometimes..
With a vented hood you will be dumping alot of water in the engine bay?
If any wires, sensors are exposed you will get problems?

 

i had a vented hood for years and didnt have a problem but mostly didnt drive it in the rain. most hoods come with trays for under the vents that are supposed to drain water towards the edges of the hood. i took mine out so heat could escape the engine bay better. think i still have them if someone needs a set

 

Mine has small wires that may do the same thing u are referring to, but I'm not sure how what I have, looks sorta like mesh, would prevent water in the engine.

 

no mine had mesh too but also came whit fiberglass trays that mount to the inside of the hood to help keep water out and channel it to the sides of the engine bay

How do I tell if the engine is flooded?

 

if its flooded it will sound like its spinning/cranking faster than normal because theres less compression

I have a K&N typhoon with no under tray on car so rain gets onto the filter and wont start until dried out but check fuses,every fuse.

 

I have a vented hood, took out the trays underneath one summer to let heat out. But after a heavy rain I also had a loud whining sound when starting. Turns out it was the air pump (N3H1-13-81XD), which I believe blows warm air to heat the cat, it's on the passenger side in front of the washer fluid reservoir. I went to the dealership to order the part without the bracket to save some money, swapped them out and replaced the fuse. Good as new. I then put the trays back so it didn't happen again. You should pull the plugs and clean them or replace them. The engine is most likely flooded. Check to make sure your coils are dry while you're in there. Pull the 20A fuel pump fuse with the plugs out and get the spark plug wires out of the way and crank the engine over and watch how much has comes out of the plug holes. Clean the residual from the cranking, install the plugs and the fuse and it should start up if it were flooded.

 

after pulling the plugs and cranking, and cleaning the plugs and reinstalling, try to start like normal? or do the deflood process?

I would attempt the deflood the engine while you have the plugs out. Pulling the 20A fuel pump fuse will result in no fuel delivery to the engine, allowing you to push the excess fuel out of the engine as its turned over with no spark plugs. You have to be careful and make sure the spark plug wires are nowhere near the spark plug holes. Bring them up top and lay them towards the font of the engine. Clean or replace the plugs and if everything is in working order, I believe that the engine will start.

 

Thanks this helps a lot. One more question before I tackle it this weekend. I've read conflict reports...pulling the fuel pump fuse, do I still.press the gas to the floor.

 

pulling the f/p and holding the pedal to the floor does the same thing

 

Sorry for the late response....so after I pulled my plugs and getting the excess gas out, then replacement of plugs and wires......still does not start. Doesn't really sound anything like it used to when it was starting. Ideas?

 

Anything else I can try?
