FL A whining rx8, like me right now!

Ok, somebody out there please give me an idea. My 2006 rx8 with 78,000 miles was just fine on Friday and today it won't start. Engine sounds like it's just whining. Don't have a clue. Please HELP?! And go easy on me here!

Could be the starter isn't engaging anymore?

My guess is that you're hearing the air pump after you stop cranking the engine over. Sounds like you need to unflood the engine and try getting the engine started.

Search the forum in the DIY section and you will find how to remove the starter. I did it a few months ago and it only took me a few minutes to pull the starter and test it. Good luck.

If you're going to have 2 threads for the same question, as least don't provide contradictory info

A video would help, between your comments it's hard to understand what's happening.

It's at Mazda. Bad coil or coils, plugs need to be changed and will change all the coils. I believe there are 4 of them and 4 plugs. And yes, flooded. Couldn't find anybody I am comfortable in the area to work on it. The bill.......hahahahaha.......close to $1000. Think I am getting.....well you know but they have me by the.......well you know. Should be done tomorrow, Wednesday. If i bought the coils and the plugs they would do it but not warranty it for 12,000 or 12 months.

Cool, glad you got it figured out. Probably could have saved that money by turning the wrench yourself, but at least its in good hands.

That's crazy money to replace the plugs and coils!!!! You can buy the parts for a couple hundred bucks and have the job done in an hour. Where are you located? If you were close by I wouldn't have charged you a dime to do that job. I'm sure their book time calls for something crazy like an hour for spark plug replacement, and two hours for coils, plus o.e. parts and an hour of diag time. Still sounds like an awful lot to me.

Ouch! You can buy those parts for $250 or under. I would have charged you a 6 pack of good beer for labor and had you on your way in an hour.

If you let your ignition get that bad, there is a chance there is damage to the catalytic converter. You need to have it visually inspected for signs of clogging or breaking down.
