Can i hotwire the power steering

hi guys im building a rallycar and the complete wiring harness is out of the car including all computeres. I thought i had everything covered but i completely forgot about the power steering wich i really still want.
So my question is does the power steering work if i just connect the power steering engine to 12 volts?..

Best regards Rasmus Andersen Denmark

Um, no. The EPS system is quite complicated.

it's not hard, but just connecting 12v will not enable it.

Technically it's not hard, but it's still going to be a pain. All of the torque assist calculations are done in the PCM, then those values are sent to the rack via the high speed CAN bus. In theory there's a backup setting for when high speed CAN fails.

I can think of one guy who at least tried, and iirc he got it working for his electric Rx8. Let me see if I can find it in his blog.

That was an easy find.

https://ev8electric.wordpress.com/2015/01/21/figuring-out-the-electric-power-steering/

So it looks like you will be able to get the power steering to work, but since the factory ECM isn't in place you won't have any input from the torque or steering sensors and thus no calculated torque assist. That probably means that you're going to have functional power steering, but it will always be on max torque and it won't feel anything like the factory power steering.

But it will work.

Thanks man that's a big help I will be finding a. Way to get this working. I'm actually thinking about getting a 1,5 to 1 box on the column to get quicker around the rally sprint track so if I could get it to be adjustable that would be awesome
