Factory radio swap out.

I have a 2010 R3. I just acquired a GT factory touch screen nav head unit and air control complete with face plate for a really good deal. However after it was installed it asks to be taken to the dealer. I called the dealer and they want 350 bucks to reprogram for my car. Is there a simple way around this? That seems like way to much. I understand they are crooks from the start but dang.....
Thanks.

Did you sucseed about this? I have a R3 like you and trying to install a GT Nav to it. The problem i have is to figure out the 24 pin cable marked in the photo.

Sound is ok, radio is playing but i have the warning which tells me to take it to the dealer. Dealer told me that they can not do anything, because radio is not getting the vehicle info (?) . According to them i have to make a connector between orginal harness and this marked connector.

So anyone have a idea or did anyone made this replacement before? Any info about this connector?

It's a wiring issue.. you need a different harness for the dash. This is on a project to do list for my R3 as well.. you have to find a harness that has all of your options. You're looking at something close to $500 for the harness.

NO! It's definitely not the wiring issue. The unit can work even separately just wired to power supply.
If you have black screen with "...contact dealer" warning message, you need to use the proper map DVD (boot disc) to load the firmware to the unit (typical after power supply disconnection when using updated maps).

Thanks for the input everyone, I got my unit from a junk yard from another province. Got all the pig tail wiring and I will take some photo show you guys later, I tried to installed it last month and it does have a warming message about contact dealer.
Does anyone know where i can get the boot disc or I will have to get it from the dealership?

The OEM factory NAV and touchscreen radio is pretty low on the spectrum for ease of use or quality. The resolution is low, the Nav is CD based and clunky, don't even waste your time with it. I'll be changing mine out with an Android auto unit soon enough, I can't wait!

My R3 have a full system (Inducing a Nav double din) installed by the Previous owner but I prefer the OEM looks.
I have Android Auto unit on my daily so I know how good they are lol.

Finally got some time to take some photos for what I am planning to do.

OEM Radio and OEM Nav Screen

OEM Radio

OEM Nav Screen (I am installing a newer unit lol)

OEM Radio without Harness

OEM Nav Screen without Harness

OEM Nav Screen with all the pigtail Harnesses from the junk car

OEM Radio with the pigtail harnesses from the Nav Screen #1

OEM Radio with the pigtail harnesses from the Nav Screen #2

Left with the green plug and white plug that I don't have in my car

I am not sure what are the rest of the plugs that I didn't have from my car or not from the junk car but I had the Nav screen hook up once it and it power up but the warning message show up which I still have to find the Nav DVD hopefully the problem will be solve.
I am going to get everything back in place this summer (still have to fix some wiring from removing the old system) and I will upload more photos.

YES
The OEM Nav Screen is in the car and fully working. I didn't find out what's the white plug for but the green plug is for GPS antenna. Ordered it from Mazda and bought a used Nav DVD from a member here.

This is the OEM GPS antenna with the green plug.

Power up without a problem

I want the OEM looks with the button on the side rather than just a blank panel which is the main reason I go with this unit.

Brilliant thanks for the update.

I'm in the UK and I don't believe these were sold here so will update how it goes for me.

AFAIK it's a Navteq map. So hopefully a mazda 6 dvd will work

Well I know what I’m doing very soon. Thanks for the write up… I have a nav unit as well. But have been too timid to dive into this project.

It’s too bad you can’t swap out the internal unit for a more modern nav unit? One that might even bring Bluetooth audio to the car? Not to mention possibly CarPlay functionality?
I would definitely do this if the main unit could deliver on those things…

Thats the issue unfortunately. There wasn’t that much demand as it was. In truth, the only thing that really bothered me was not having Bluetooth audio. Since by this time every other vehicle in the lineup had Bluetooth for both the phone and the audio. Alas…
I’ll continue to use the aux port.

Maybe check your wiring behind the dash? I have a spare radio unit you can try but depend where you are.
